Are there any Brits that really left the UK because of this?

I was reacting to a post which said exactly this.

At least they are financially secure and don't/can't sponge of the system like in in the UK. I guess this isn't the immigrants fault, but the country's.

Ludicrous statement. There's no evidence immigrants to the UK "sponge" off the system. On the whole they are a great deal more industrious and productive than the "native" population. As for these Thailand "expats" being financially secure, aren't they the ones constantly whining about their tiny state pensions?

Wasting my life away on TVN.

Much better to stick it out in Thailand with its pollution, ever increasing cost of living, political clusterfxxx, thinly masked xenophobia and immigration insecurity.

Are you saying that UK has no problem with increased cost of living, political clusterfeck and thinly masked xenophobia? Credit to you though for pointing out the Socialist policies of inflation linked State pension and free healthcare.

I'm not sure the xenophobia is masked in the UK these days, even thinly!  That said, the horrific xenophobia and worse against Asians in the US is far worse.

I agree with much of this. However the point of my original post on this subject was to puncture the silliness which uncritically portrays Thailand as an earthly paradise and the UK as a wholescale disaster. Both countries have their strengths and weaknesses, and I love them both - though not uncritically.

Isn't is truly funny?

As you point out, an important reason to leave the UK is the influx of immigrants.

.....and then they become immigrants themselves......

I love it when this is said "your an immigrant yourself" i lived most of my life in an area that had immigrants in the UK ,there were not a lot and everyone got on ,over the years more and more and more arrived ,until now the nice working class town i spent much of my life in became a foreign land ,you no longer hear the church bells  ,just wailing from the Mosque towers.

immigration ,like ours here to Thailand is not really a problem ,as we have not tried to take over ,but i am sure if as many of us decended on Thailand as have immigrants from all over the world have on the west and in  my case the UK i am sure they would not be happy .

but then ,i doubt you would agree , i suppose to you multiculturalism is the way to go for a happy land ,

I wont marry a Thai or work so now chance for citizenship or PR. My only worry is the rules being changed for example, Insurance requirements no longer able to comply with due to age or conditions. I could afford to retire here today, what if they move the goal posts?

That is why one must have a plan B and perhaps plan C, and never invest in Thailand more than one can afford to lose. This is to include National confiscation of assets by a future govt that might not be as foreigner friendly What's in your bug-out bag?

Requirement for medical insurance. Catastrophic illness in old age. Being a burden on my wife & using up all our savings.

Still love it here...

Horrific? Out of 333 million people how many cases?

Maybe I have misunderstood what you mean, but wouldn't medical insurance mitigate the risk of "being a burden on my wife & using up all our savings"?

Nobody forces you to 'use up all our savings' if you become ill, death is always a choice.

Death is always the preferred choice of the Thai wife, when a farang is using up their savings to stay alive.  ????
