I need an update on the visa situation

Featured Replies

Long time listener, first time poster. Not really.

I am coming back to the LOS and need to figure out the game plan. I know, we've got Covid and the 14 day prison term is going to be reduced to 10 after the 1st...April...1st.

In a perfect world, this won't be a joke.

My options are, get a teaching job and a visa before I get fit to fly certs and book a flight. However some schools want to see you live and in color before they do the deed.

Option 2 is, get a 60 day tourist visa with a 30 day extension, and then look around for a job. Can you get back to back tourist visa's now?

Option 3 is, do the tourist thing and then convert to another visa. Ed or a volunteer visa.

My first choice would be letting the school sponsor me since that is the least likely to have problems. I want to do it before Songkran but after the 1st of April

My question is, can you get a tourist back to back? What would you do, fellow teachers, in this situation?

Where did you get that from?

A post flaming a member and replies to it have been removed. A repeat of it will result in a formal warning.

The 10 day quarantine starting on April 1st has been in the news.

You could get another tourist visa at a embassy or consulate if needed.

if you find a job you could apply for a 90 day non-b visa at immigration.

That is  possible.

Thanks, Joe. Thailand changes so much you have to get an update before you invest. I want to get back on the ground before I do the retirement visa again. Take the temperature again, ya know?

Both 7 & 10 day quarantine have been in the news - as proposals. Anutin was quoted as saying both WOULD happen then a few days later it was reported they were simply what he favoured. I haven't seen anything concrete on either and given 1 April is just a week away, they'd better get a move on.

The ten day quarantine has been approved but most embassies have posted info about it yet. I think they may be working on the final details such as the 14 day quarantine will still be need for those traveling from Africa for example.

I'm not disagreeing Joe - I just haven't seen anything concrete. I take everything with a pinch of salt now - the first report of Anutin's proposals on Thaivisa qouted him as saying the measures were being brought in.  I took it that was gospel - then less than a week later new reports said they were measures that he 'favoured'.

The proposals, announcements and plans seem to come on an almost daily basis now.

Like Joe said it's been approved. What don't you understand?

I think that's quite clear - I haven't seen anything concrete. I'd appreciate a link to the report that its factual.

Thanks Joe - that's good news for a few maybe but given the conditions on 'countries with a record of new virus variants' - I won't be holding my breath. There are at least 3 variants present in the UK at the moment and I think most countries have them. Have to wait and see the list when its available.

It will also be interesting to see exactly what 10 days means - as far as I know the 14 day quarantine is actually 15 so is 10, 11?
