Its been widely advertised that checkpoints in general haven't been operating much due to covid, shutdowns etc. and are resuming, And extra checkpoints for Songkran period.

If anything its just a return to having normal checkpoints that have been non-existent for the last 12 months, not a concerted tea money exercise.

Maybe the fact that there have been no tourists to fleece for the last year?

Last three visits. Not a single checkpoint experienced.

I could have passed Soi 9 without a helmet (which I don't).

Also not observed other riders stopped.

And the real cash cows (e.g. rental big bike racers in swimming trunks and flip flops only) are simply absent (heaven thanks).

Also: last time driving down by car (560 km). Not a single checkpoint on the way. Exceptional.

(I don't drive much with the car within the city)

Carry your license and paperwork required. (Visit a lawyer and get a card). Don't speed or drive recklessly. Be courteous. And above all "DON"T DRINK (alcohol) AND DRIVE"!!!

You will be fine!

Why worry ,if all your papers are ok and the vehicle is Legal ?

For me it's the delay. It's been great without the checkpoints. I don't look forward to the traffic jams and delays caused by them.

I would question the effectiveness of these checkpoints in reducing fatalities. Most illegal drivers can simply avoid them, or accept the 200 Baht fine and continue on their merry way.

Exactly, already for more than a  year no checkpoint opposite the Lotus-mall in Hua hin.

It looks like "No honey, no money"

Who said that the checkpoints where there to help reduce the Road Kill ?

As for the Delays I have never been stopped (Touch Wood) And that wouldn't to bad.

Yes for sure All the locals know where the checkpoints are and they dodge them all the time.
