Some few days Kosamuilife.com don't upgrade, other days the info is shared late, which is why you might see the other source Kohmui.com that don't include cases on Koh Tao, but sometimes share detailed information for Samui. And some days I don't have time, so that's why I sometimes combine two days in one post...????

Last evening everything (at least around Chaweng and Bangrak) was ordered closed at 23:00 amid rumors there’s a large cluster of hundreds of new infections. Even the 7/11’s closed earlier than normal. And yes, I know that 23:00 has been the official closing time for awhile now, but in practice many places stayed open until 2 or 3 or even later without anyone batting an eye.

I heard a contrasting story, that this all was due to a new police chief flexing his mucles.

Can anyone confirm?

No knowledge but I would expect it to be the police.

A Covid outbreak does not make sense logically.

It takes some days for Covid to show up in tests (4-5  days with our guests.)

Closing Chaweng because of a Covid outbreak 4-5 days ago is a bit late?

And again - why close at 23.00? Close the place ASAP As they did with the worker's camps in Bangkok. Sorry. Krung Thep Maha Nakhon.

Official closing time is still 23:00, so you are presumably quite right. Some might have longer opening hours, presumably due to the facts my Thai lawyer learned me: "There is a very long distance from Bangkok [meaning Krung Thep Maha Nakhon] down to Samui"...????

PS: It has happened before that a new big bass of the island's police shows muscles about opening hours. Last time I experienced such a case was back in 2012. The next day there was a demonstration in front of Bo Phut Police Station in Chaweng, where the new big boss finally came on stage - he could probably hear the speeches in his office due to the large loudspeakers - and stated that he now understood the importance of long opening hours due to tourism. Not long after it was said that the the big boss requested for a move to another district...:whistling:
