Wow - Coco Tams is busy.

It looks like the place has expanded since I was last there.

It is a favourite with a lot of our Thai guests.

Coco Tams is packed around 7pm every night for dinner. They are queueing sometimes across the road outside to get in.

FMP was on the 17th Feb this month. Between 18th and 25th there were :-

Samui  158 reported cases. Population 50,000 - 60,000

KPN     213 reported cases. Population 10,000 - 12,000

(No Covid numbers for 22/2)

That is a big spike in KPN considering the difference in the population between the two islands.

I've been having same thoughts. There has been FMPs since November, but only booming from December/New year, In general Phangan seems to have relative higher number of Covid cases compared to the smaller population.

Thailand has entered its fifth wave of Covid-19, with highly contagious Omicron replacing Delta as the dominant strain. The Omicron subvariant is now estimated to account for around 95 per cent of new cases, with Delta accounting for the rest...

it seems odd how the numbers jumped five fold from the 8th and have remained there. I wonder if the authorities are just doing more testing to spot it.

Looks like the cat is well and truly out of the bag here now. A far cry from those early days of single digit numbers. But it was bound to happen once the doors were opened once more to tourists.

I am the only one in our household not to have caught it yet. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

What happens to tourists  on Samui who are diagnosed with Covid?

I can only speak for tourists that are staying in private villas.

Since about November last year, they are allowed to quarantine in their villa.

They are all OK with using the food delivery people and we wait until their quarantine period is over.

First we ask the Tessabaan to come and disinfect the villa. Then we restart our normal service.

So far, none of the tourists have had severe symptoms.

We do regular ATK testing of myself and others that come into regular contact with the tourists.

I went to Samui from KPG on Monday, no checks in either port, With the FMP coming up it's guaranteed that there will be plenty of Covid carriers on the Islands in excess of official figures. If you're coming to the party, you're not going to get checked if you have mild symptoms. My advice to the rest of the oldies is don't go out if you don't need to for the next few days.
