BANGKOK (NNT) - A meeting of cabinet ministers acknowledged an integrated plan to prevent and reduce road accidents during the Songkran holiday.

 

Government Spokeswoman, Traisuree Taisaranakul, said the cabinet meeting acknowledged the road accident and prevention plan, as proposed by the Road Safety Center, with a new campaign called "Happy Songkran, Drive Safe and Far Away from COVID-19". The focus is on area-based management, together with measures and guidelines to help limit the spread of COVID-19, and the continuous integration of the work of all sectors. Officials have to enforce laws strictly and raise awareness of road safety issues.

 

The road safety and prevention measures cover several areas, including the setting up road accident and prevention centers, reducing risk factors related to roads, environment and vehicles, promoting road safety among road users and providing timely assistance after an accident.

 

The cabinet meeting also agreed to extend COVID-19 testing and biometric data collection of migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar until June 16, 2021.

 

Deputy Government Spokeswoman, Dr. Ratchada Thanadirek, said the government has a policy to ease restrictions on migrant workers from the three countries, allowing them to stay in the kingdom and work legally during the COVID-19 situation.

 

They are required to follow the legal process, including undergoing COVID-19 testing, providing biometric data and registering as non-Thai nationals. Due to the current COVID-19 situation and travel restrictions, the deadline for migrant workers has been extended from April 16 to June 16. In addition, the registration period for migrant workers with temporary work permits, or pink cards, has been extended to March 31, 2022. This also covers employed and unemployed migrant workers.

I'm an avid supported of or Lord God Boris, but sheesh he really mucked up covid with Christmas holidays and seeing the relatives.

Better still, don't drive and risk contacting or spreading COVID-19 ...............!!!!

Good to see that the plan has been acknowledged. Now they can't say it never existed..

So when does the Songkran plan get ratified and enforced? About October I suspect.

Prevent and reduce road accidents, somebodies avin a laff, only way that will ever happen is ban traffic on the roads over the songkran holiday.

They have already disclosed the plan.  Stay at home !  That's it ?

They acknowledge it every year - that's the only action that's ever taken; the death toll continues to mount whilst the police draw their overtime payments for staring at their phones.

Let's be honest; they don't give a Rats Butt how many people die on the roads or die of Covid just as long as their own personal Bank Accounts don't shrink.   If Prayut 'cared' about the people he would have at least tried to keep some of his promises; geez, even the price of Lottery Tickets still cannot be effectively controlled and there can't be anything much simpler than that.  We won't go into Police 'Reforms' etc etc !

They may not give a "Rats butt" because undoubtedly they are vermin in their attitudes and actions.  They placated many of the poor last time round with free handouts. Just how they will do it in this wave of covid will be interesting. 

In other news an expert expresses concern over virus which caused Ninja Turtles to mutate........

It must have taken most of the day to come up with that name.

I thought they liked being Number One at something.....
