    Pure fantasy.

  • They could scrap the current 90 day reports and instate a new 3 month report. That'd fool us!

If I want to live in the US, for example, I have to invest 16,000,000 baht!

and that doesn't include the bullet proof vest

Yeah yeah yeah.... actions speak louder than words. They MIGHT ease up a bit for a couple of years and then the onslaught will begin again.

Because they don't want begpackers selling things on the streets ?

And I'm sure the Thai medical insurance lobby is bending the task force's ear that these rich retirees must have "Thai medical insurance" (not superior foreign medical insurance) to stay happy and healthy in Thailand.

For $10,000 US a month you could literally retire in Australia and have a great life with all the trimmings. You could live really well in a seaside resort town, UK an some EU countries even get reciprocal healthcare. even working middle class Australians have a comfortable life on less.

The roads and footpaths don't try and kill you, and wine , cheese is reasonably priced, you can do most Government things without ever visiting a copy shop, and its not temporary its a path to PR

Seriously, the Thai government needs to be aware of the lifestyle that $10kUS, can buy you in most countries

That is true. And i do agree with  that.  I should have been more clear...

What i meant was to say is that they should make it easier for the average person who can prove that they can afford to live here on a reasonable amount of money and not just expats who are willing to invest tons of money into investment properties here

Western visitors and retirees were pivotal in Thailand’s growth. And the mistreatment and ridiculous rules chasing foreign investment away for the past 15 years will also be responsible for its decay and downfall.  Thailand had a wonderful reputation as the land of smiles. That ship has sailed. Any foreigner I speak to now who has never been to Thailand only has to say. “Oh they have such beautiful beaches. “. Believing all of Thailand looks like Phuket.   It’s a shame what’s happened to that country. But don’t worry. There will be plenty of busses taking people to the malls. They will shop and they will leave. Thailand has become a country of failed projects and moobans that now look like a country that’s been through a war.  With beautiful malls in the center.

Don't all governments focus on immigrants, tourist, and expats with the most money?

If so, why should Thailand be any different?

How exactly were retirees pivotal? The only thing I have seen is that Buriram Nois can afford a new buffalo.

there is no out of the box thinking by the Thai army government reason being there hole thinking revolves around getting money for nothing that is the wishful thinking that is buying subs, becoming a leader in space etc. etc. rechange the 90 day to 90 night so the dumb farangs will not know that nothing has changed, the two big things coming up are a real worry 1 a new strain of covid 19 that can handle the Thai climate and 2 the next Thai elections

Most people with a 10000USD monthly disposable income should be millionaires. According to the Barron's  Word Wealth report there are 20 million millionaires  in the world, and taking an average age distribution let's say around 15%-25% of them are at retirement age which leaves us with 3-5million potential customers.

So to get 1million paying customers you would need to get 20-30% of all potential high income retirees to move here.

(I tried a similar estimate based on household income data and I got around 4-6 million potential customers.)

Have you hit the point of the new VISA, we all know that the government lacks the money to pay salaries next year so the Farang is the target, minimum income as in Malaysia or more 100.000 B. ?

Boy meets girl. Boy supports girls family. Boy moves to Thailand and needs to live in a western style house so he boys one in a Mooban.  The he buys two new motorbikes and a car. Then a whole houseful of Furnitire. The people in the town open up a bunch of restaurants and markets to feed the boy and girl.  The mall opens

up Furnitire stores for the Furnitire. The girls family buys lots of new things and so on and so on and so on.

Great ideas always but until enacted the foreigners will be gone already ????. Lot of people already leaving

I think it's a great idea. Kick out all the peasants and bring in the rich and educated. Sick of the low lifes moaning in Thailand. If you don't like it here, then go home to your miserable pensions and <deleted>ty little homes. Upgrade Thailand, bring in the big bucks, close down all the sex tourist hovels, set a scorecard to  validate entry applications. Drop taxes on fine wines, ban smoking, ban burning crops, upgrade schools, hospitals and public services.

Tell them where to go. You don't need a Thai to go with you. Add another day to your Thai language school schedule.

Hmmm... they talk the talk but I doubt they can walk the walk

I dont study thai. Sadly if i did that id get in trouble for not doing a 90day report then. Its all about money and making problems nothing more. Ive had problems with immigration ever since i used an agency last for my extension and they went to a differenr provience to do it in instead if bkk. Heck even when i went to do my first 90 day report i almost got my exyension revoked just bevause of it and forced to leave thailand.

For crying out aloud, no matter how TW tries she can't spend the 65K I bring in a month (retirement extn. Refuse to go down the 800K path)

Been here 20 years, 3 Chanoots, 3 cars and more land than you can poke a stick at --- wot more do they want.?

They want your money without the farang attached to it ????‍♂️ honestly until thailand gets with the times in regards to visas matching what thai people receive in other countries they won't increase their numbers much. Most people I've spoken to understand the whole thai land for thai people but I've never heard anyone ever say thailands visa system is anyway good or reciprocal in terms of what you can actually do when you come here

now I know where the wealth gap comes from, and certainly it will attack the foreigner communities very soon !

Don't use illegal agents and do things by the book.

What would happen in your home country if a foreigner tried to bypass immigration laws by using an agency that bribes immigration police?

Why don't you do the 90 day report?

You need to spend more.   Maybe buy things for your neighbors?

I retire this year and will hope to retire to asia as I love the region and the life. However, I doubt that I would commit to living in Thailand long term as I have seen the nature of Thai governments over the past twenty years.  Even though they make this statement at a time when covid seems to be surging in the country I just do not trust the Thai regime.

They give the impression of being xenophobic and anti westerner with constantly changing requirements, a currency which seems artificially high and an inability over a longer time scale to maintain a regime that supports retirees and inward investment.

I love the life and culture in Thailand, I have lived in Roi Et, Bangkok, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai over the past two decades during extended visits and during my married life. But while I can appreciate the Thai people and culture I would not trust the regime.
