I have been teaching In a well known school in Nonthaburi since 2017 but I am considering not accepting the new contract offer. I would like to know my visa options.I am unable to go back to my country dû to the COVID-19 situation. Thank you so much in advance for your advice and comments.

At his time you could apply for a 60 day covid 19 extension to stay longer after your extension ends or it is canceled.

You could also look for a new job and change your extension to the new employer before it is canceled.

Do you know how to get a new non B if I am lucky enough to get a new job before my visa expires?

You don't need a new non-B.

You do not need a new non-b visa to change employers. You change your extension of stay from one employer to another.

Your new employer would have to apply for a new work permit and get a application approval letter for it.

Then on the date on the termination letter from your employer you would apply for the new extension using supporting documents from the new employer and the work permit application approval letter.

Then after getting the new extension your existing work would be cancelled and the new one issued.

I'm in a similar situation but confused about the process...

My contract with the school ended last month but the non-b extension doesn't finish until July

So do I cancel this non-b extension, apply for a covid 60 day extension, then start a new non-b when after finding a new school?

Also worried the current school will randomly cancel my work permit and i'll unknowingly be on overstay

Technically, your extension of stay ended when you were no longer working. If you are still on good terms with your old school, see if they are willing to postdate a termination letter to, say, the end of this month. This will allow you to cancel your current permission to stay and apply for a Covid extension without any complications. Without a postdated termination letter, you are currently in a precarious situation if you do not intend leaving Thailand soon.

well it's school holidays for 1 month (unpaid) and they are expecting me back next month, I just haven't signed the contract yet

maybe it's easier to quit once the non-b finishes in July

That would be my recommendation.

If I was in your position & your current employer is offering you a new contract & will pay you monthly I would take it under the present Covid situation

Ride it out & take away more pressure on yourself

I was just thinking the same, it’s looking more and more unlikely that the schools will restart at the regular date.

I would hate to be a teacher working on a year to year contract wondering if I was going to get paid until you get back into the classroom, and then the added pressure of doing extra waste of time, catch-up classes (from experience) because the parents have paid for the fees.

If your current school is willing to keep paying you, take it until the schools return and jump ship.

it's usually not that easy.  first they might try to deduct fees on  your final check....sometimes as much as 20,000.  then it might be hard for them to sign-off on the work permit, or drag their feet....then probably no way you can work in that province again unless you want more headaches...

we are talking about like 30,000 baht, or less....... the headaches alone might be like 15,000 baht...

if you stay, stay for multiple months and try to quit around October.  but then you hate your life for many months, since you likely hate the school and environment (hence why you want to leave).

and now it's way easier to get a job then in a few months.

i would cut the cord.  worst case relax without a salary for a few months.  if you are working in Thailand for the money, then that's a much, much bigger long-term problem.

remember, well known means connections.....you treat them bad, they might treat you bad.   and directors know directors.

My first school terminated our contracts mid Feb (with a verbal promise to take us back) and would not issue our new contracts until school restarted in May.  Our WP's and extensions of stay were written to the end of the contract and no more (except for me I was on a married extension but the WP terminated with the contract).

The other 2 had to go post haste mid Feb to Nong Khai and cross the border into Laos and come back on tourist visas. When they got their new contracts it was out to get new Non-B's so that all 3 of us could get new WP's.

As I said neither the WP nor the extension expiry dates were beyond the contract expiry date, so I find it difficult to understand how your off contract but your non-B (presume an extension of stay) is still valid.
