Thailand’s Public Health Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, called an urgent meeting today, with senior public health officials and administrators at Bangkok’s City Hall, to tackle the lack of hospital beds and to discuss the plan to set up a patient reception and screening (triage) centre, before they are sent to hospital or isolation, as befits their condition.

Anutin admitted that the hospital bed problem in Bangkok is complex. Even though his ministry is not directly responsible for the problem, he said he does not want it to worsen, adding that he has asked the minister of tourism and sports for permission to use the indoor stadium at Hua Mark as a triage centre for COVID-19 patients.

Meanwhile, the country recorded 2,438 new COVID-19 cases today (Sunday), including 1,078 in Bangkok alone and 11 more fatalities, according to CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin.

"... adding that he has asked the minister of tourism and sports for permission to use the indoor stadium at Hua Mark as a triage centre for COVID-19 patients."

Yawn.

I wonder if all the logistics that would be involved have been noted and studied:

- Hundreds of people per day, all needing an ambulance or other dedicated transport to get to the stadium then transported to an assigned hospital.

- Would it not be better with such numbers to have many mobile teams at numerous touch points who can do appropriate triage and send the patient direct to the appropriate hospital and advise the assigned hospital someone is coming and their condition.

frontline staff including ambulance crews should have been top priority for vaccines but instead the sent thousands of doses to tourism hotspots like Phuket, now they have issues because ambulance and transport crews are getting sick

Anutin time to resign and get someone in the job that actually has a clue

Turn Hua Mark indoor stadium into a COVID-19 triage centre

Instead of turning this public venue into a triage centre, why not turn parliament house into one and send all the clowns who work there to an inactive post!

After having a year to plan for potential outbreaks , I'd have to disagree with that statement of deflection  from the Health ministry. Not exactly the responsibility of the parks and recreations dept is it?

Though I suspect they'd have more of an idea of what to do.

Question; is the treatment free for Thais and Foreigners in these field hospitals or are the patients required to pay? I really don't know,. If payment is required then I can see why the government is so eager to throw even asymptomatic people into these places for 10 or more. Would be a great little cash cow for those that skim from all Gov. projects.
