New Leo beer variant: 'Leo No. 8'

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I've just had a bottle of Leo beer. I thought they'd just changed the label, but this is 'Leo Number 8' and it's 'Strong Brew'.

Unless my tastebuds have taken a dive since yesterday, this is a different-tasting beer from normal Leo, and I don't like it.

It's 5.1% abv, whereas standard Leo is 5%, so it's hardly stronger than before.

The main thing is, it tastes more like Chang!

Has anyone else tried it?

What do you think?

I quite like Leo 8. It's very similar to Tapper, in my opinion. My wife, gawd bless her (see post above) recently returned from the shops with Lao IPA which she found at a 7-11 for 65 baht - small bot

Been around for a while now.

I must admit I quite like it, certainly more so than the regular Leo.

For some time now, the Chang and both Leo Beers have been tasting just like chemical Water. Or  Cats P!!$.

There has obviously been a shift, first at Chang, and then the Leo Brewery's toward making the products cheaper.

Dont drink either now, awful stuff.

@Dmaxdan

Yes, I have seen it before. For some reason I just hadn't tried it.

I'm glad you like it. I don't like any of the Thai domestic beers, but I like beer, and standard Leo was the least horrible.

I hope they never withdraw the standard brew!

What beer do you drink, then?

It does not matter what I drink now.

Everybody's tastes are different, and if you dont like Leo or Chang, you have to ring the changes until you find a beer you enjoy to drink.

I tried Leo's 69. Made me feel melancholic.

Not a state secret as far as I know........ so I will tell you I tend to drink Singha......have the odd Chang, Leo, Tiger...... just to mix it up a bit.

I'm guessing that's not a beer...55

Leo assured me that it was a beer.

Tapper 6.5% Bht 52 a can, cheaper by the case from Makro.

Tapper, Bht 52 a can, 6.5%.

Can you get that in bars?

Me? Tiger or Tsingtao or...

Leo is the worst beer I have ever tried and this new one is no better, an extra 0.1 percent is not worth the bother, it's just a marketing gimmick.

The new Leo tastes like Singha. The new Singha reserva tastes a bit like Kirin.

Perhaps ThaiBev is marketing Pink Pu$$y Pi$$    Is there a connection?

Leo No8 has a better taste (I find) than regular Leo. That's from the tin. No idea if it's available in bottle.

less in the bottle more expensive mixed with "yadong" ?????

cheers

Tiger beer is produced by Heineken Asia at TAPB brewery, Nonthaburi.

Tsingtao beer is produced in Thailand.  https://www.chinadaily.com.cn/bizchina/2011-10/18/content_13921604.htm#:~:text=The company's branch in Thailand, production output in the world.

Which of the two do you prefer? Are they much more expensive than Singha/Leo/Chang?

Anyone know where I can buy Krung Thep - Golden Ale  ?  Have not seen it for months now.

I thought everyone knew Tiger is brewed at the same brewery as Heineken. I've been to the brewery, twice I think.  I'll have to check if Tsingtao has a import sticker next time I am tempted. I've only seen it sold singly and I usually buy by the dozen.

Chang 25th anniversary stuff is palatable but one has to start on that. Changing to it after Tiger is , well, ughh. San Miguel Light if that is all there is.

I don't buy by price so i am not an expert of prices. I believe that when my wife buys 500ml cans of Tiger they are 50 Baht from the local mom and pop store.

Aaaand ... the lesson is ...

... asking for an opinion about beer is like asking opinions of economists: you get more than one differing opinion from each one!

I am outta here. May you all enjoy the beer of your choice. I'm taking up an easier hobby: herding cats!

It is. My wife came home with a box of the stuff when we feared a lockdown. Everyone should have a wife like that.

I quite like Leo 8. It's very similar to Tapper, in my opinion. My wife, gawd bless her (see post above) recently returned from the shops with Lao IPA which she found at a 7-11 for 65 baht - small bottle. Only found it though in one branch. It's by far the nearest to a proper UK beer that I've had here. Naturally, it isn't Thai and is imported from next door where they know how to make a decent beer. After it passed my taste bud test she returned next time with several more. Cheers.

EDIT: I've just noticed the Limited Edition on the label, which makes me nervous. I'd better have a drink.

Such a shame that Thailand  reneges on its  trade deals  to protect a couple of mediocre beer producing families

and deprive us all of the chance to enjoy cheap booze from  ASEAN counties  which includes Australia,  a bottle of Aussie wine  3 times as much  as it is in the UK !!!

Mutant strain???   ????

Or, perhaps it just means, they've now tried eight different versions of their beer, and still haven't managed to produce one that tastes anything like a real, worthwhile brew!!!

Leo No8 is too sweet for me. I usually drink Tiger because it is the best of a poor lot. It is 56 Baht per 630ml bottle from Big C
