Visiting Thailand only options are quarantine or "sandbox" until 2022?

Featured Replies

As the title says are these going to be the only options throughout 2021?  I have people that want to visit but not if quarantine or "sandbox" are required upon entry.

It is possible before the end of year a vaccinated person could enter without being quarantined or possibley a day or two to get a get negative covid test.

Thank you for that assessment.  It seems then they should not make definite plans to come this year but wait to see how things go in October and November.  I will tell them that.  They would come if only a one day delay for a negative test is required.

They should delay until the announced restriction meet their requirements then.

International travel will never return to "no covid restrictions", but will be liberalized over the next several years, the essential element being internationally verifiable digital vaccine passports and test results.

How long have people been removing their shoes at airports?

Sadly you are probably right that some perminent restrictions will be in place.  Like Yellow Fever restructions or more.

info from other travel related forums :

PHASE 2 - Jul 01, 2021, Phuket ONLY (sandbox). certified vaccinated traveller only.

PHASE 3 - Oct 10, 2021, if Phuket sandbox successes, then 10 provinces including Bangkok.  certified vaccinated traveller only.

PHASE 4 - Jan 01, 2022, entire country. certified vaccinated traveller only.

this is still the TAT 'plan' in discussion, from last week. other travel formalities still required, like COE.

TAT plans are in shambles. I suggest that the OP spends some reading time in Thaivisa news forum. It will become painfully obvious that these TAT plans have gone up in smoke. imo.

From what I've seen it may be "recently vaccinated people" rather than simply "vaccinated people". One statement I saw was vaccinated in the last 3 months ?  So once your vaccination is "old" they treat you as un-vaccinated.  Is that the case ?

Did you read that back to yourself prior to posting it? I ask because makes ZERO sense.

You will not fly into sandbox for LONG time.

I have no interest in flying into a sandbox. If my movements are going to be restricted in any way I'm happy to stay in hotel quarantine.  The statement I saw was in relation to the reduced quarantine proposal at the time (7 days I think) for vaccinated travellers. It said that the reduced requirement applied to travellers vaccinated within the last 3 months. Anyway they reversed that  and it never happened. There must have been some concerns at the time about how long the vaccine was effective for, I guess against new variants that would and are appearing.

However now the experts say the vaccines are effective against against all current variants so that concern is diminished for the time being. In the UK they are talking about booster vaccines, and I guess it will become like the annual flu shot which is changed every year.
