PHUKET: The campaign recently founded by a Phuket expat to help the noodle vendor who was shot and paralysed on Bangla Road by a drunken off duty policeman has raised almost B400,000 in just one week.

 

Mr Aroon Thongplab, who is married with two young children, was shot by Cpl Pornthep Channarong on Patong’s main nightlife entertainment street in the early hours of Feb 23.

 

Pornthep’s errant shot hit Mr Aroon’s spine and subsequently paralysed him. He has been receiving ongoing care in hospital ever since.

Come on folks, many places closed for drinking, how about the money you save being donated to this man.

He needs all the help he can get, life being paralyzed is no fun, i know.

Look at the full story, details of how to help are there, i will be getting my wife transfer some money, come up folks dig deep.

One of the few times I agree with you, shop I drink at was told by the police 3 weeks ago that we are not allowed to drink there for the time being so I may as well have somebody else benefit from it.

 

Lets hope that this appeal is as successful as the one by the young girl which raised over 3m baht for her to go to medical school.

Sad to read, there must be both responsibility and some funds within the Royal Thai Police to compensate in cases like this...

The Thai Government needs to take responsibility for this and any similar cases.

 

 

Provide full, life long medical care & assistance

Provide income support (i.e. whatever his job was, provide the same income for the rest of his life and retirement).

Provide compensation. 

 

RTP are a government body - either the government or the RTP are fully responsible and should be financially accountable. 

 

Additionally, the Police officer needs to be held accountable for his criminal actions.

I bet that news doesn't see the light of day in Thai news.
Talk about a loss of face for Thais who could care less.

The government and RTP will just say that it's the noodle vendors bad karma and will toss it all into the memory hole.
However, an expat foundation assisting the family financially will be a constant thorn in their sides.
They should do the right thing - but they won't.

Unfortunately, the government and RTP's idea of the "right thing" is usually a gift basket of little condensed chicken juice bottles, a few wais and a photo op.

I do not criticize help given and agree it is kind and good act.. However, I feel it allows the responsible parties;  the police employee who did this, the police organization that allows the abuse of power because it is dysfunctional and corrupt, the government that refuses to flush the toilet that is the RTP and the general population of Phuket that has the government it deserves, all to escape responsibility.  I am sorry to say, but this is not the first incident like this and it will not be the last.

Why are members going on about the R.T.P.  and Government should help? They dont give a rats a##e about the poor man.

He needs  help not talk, come on help him, i have, wife transferred money yesterday.

Ok for you abled bodied people to yak on about this, his life has been destroyed, he will never again be able to take his children for a walk, think about that.

Donate please, he needs all the help he can get.
