Phuket: 60% of population already vaccinated, confident for July 1 opening

Phuket's governor Narong Wunsew was upbeat yesterday as the province and island prepares to welcome foreign tourists on July 1st.

But beneath the hype there were some caveats.

He said that with 30 days to go he and his officials were putting everything in place so that there is no Covid and 70% of Thais, foreign residents, migrants and workers are vaccinated.

That's 460,000 people so that the Phuket Sandbox can begin and Thailand can start getting back to a semblance of normality.

As of yesterday 59.9% of the people had received their first or second jabs and the rollout would be continuing apace through June so that everyone is ready and "herd immunity" is reached.

Narong said that officials from the Tourism Authority of Thailand would be meeting with him today (Tuesday) to iron out the finer points of the reopening.

However, he sounded a note of caution warning that he could not confirm that foreign tourists would actually come on July 1st.

Obstacles still remain that need to be sorted with the TAT, interior ministry and the CCSA.

In addition whether foreign governments allowed their citizens to travel is another stumbling block.

Still, Phuket will be ready on July 1st he claimed.

The TAT said elsewhere that they expect 129,000 tourists on the island by September, CNN were visiting to promote the island and 20 Americans were arriving on July 9th.

Thaivisa notes that the language being used by officials regarding Phuket indicates they are preparing for a delay or at the very least a "soft opening" to the country.

Revealingly, stories like this one from Manager have no data from foreign tourists who have actually booked to come to Phuket. It is all conjecture and rhetoric.

The reference to "20 tourists coming from America" might be seen in this light.

So all visitors have to have the complete course of 2 shots, whereas the local populace can get away with 1.  What nonsense! E£veryone needs the full course to be fully vaccinated!

It's all very well Phuket saying they'll be open to foreigners who've been vaccinated but what about the countries of origin.  They won't let most of them back without doing quarantine. So you can rule out the biggest markets, China, HK, Singapore, Australia, Taiwan and South Korea. You can forget Europe as they spend their summers in Europe. So where are these tourists coming from!! The clowns supposedly running this country would be dangerous if they had a braincell between them

So that's probably 450000 doses to administer in 30 days, we'll wait and see?

The truth is the government want you to think you are fully vaccinated after only one shot. Its called saving money

IF 90,000 people have had their second shot then they are fully vaccinated in Sinovac eyes. They are trying to count the ones with only one shot  as fully vaccinated 250,000. Their is also another 250,000 that have had no vaccine at all. Where is the 60 % fully vaccinated? Stop lying to your people and the world

It not only is required to have two jabs with the appropriate multi-week wait between them but also to wait an additional 2 weeks for the full efficacy of the vaccines. So cut these numbers in half and and then in half again and you're probably closer to the real number of fully vaccinated.

Also fully vaccinated doesn't mean covid free it means the virus will be less virulent less people in hospitals.

Let me try to make this simple for you. Their is 1,5 million in Phuket or are planning to travel there. Their is only 90,000 fully vaccinated there with 240,000 with one shot. That is not fully vaccinated. Then you have another 250,000 with no vaccination. That's 500,000 jabs just to vaccinate them  and that's not counting the 260,000 jabs for the people with just one shot. Like i said. Do the math. if you can

thanks that was worth the wait. ☺️

do you feel better now, you've shown him ????, go have another Chang, the 7-11 is still open

The good news is that even iof you got the AZ vaccine you can mix it with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine safely.

So if you get 2 jabs of the AZ, then get a booster in the late Autumn with one of the good vaccines, and you should be well protected.

I do not know if the Chinese vaccine is friendly to mix with the others though.

Geezer
