I  bought a new  chainsaw  but can't  find bar  oil here at  all, even STihl won't  answer if they have it when asked via  facebook. I see they sell "chainsaw"  oil in  gallon  yellow  drums at some shops  but heard it's nothing more than old  engine  oil, so read up a bit and it seems these days many people use Canola  Oil as it's  more environmentally friendly. Just tried it and it seems to work ok although chain does  look a little  dry.......any ex  lumberjacks  (Canadians)  out there..........cue  Monty Python  jokes

I found the same problem in Indonesia. I'm afraid the answer is no. Just old gear oil as you suggested.

Nooooo,  Canola  oil  available at any Tesco, clean enviro friendly etc and if  u  run  out you can cook your  food  in it!

But not sticky enough.

I was offered 2 stroke oil when I desperately tried to buy chain oil a few years ago. They just don't know about it. However, as long as the chain stays lubricated, who cares? I use oil from the last oil change. In a place like Canada (or Switzerland, temps from minus 20°C to plus 40°C) having a reliable oil might be necessary but not here I think.

Works  fine and  doesnt  fly everywhere,  used a  lot  now in Europe and is  non polluting, the stickiness  is  over  rated from what I read on  logging websites.

My guys found some a few months ago at a Bkk tool shop https://www.kingbangkok.com/  not too expensive. They also found a shop up in Chiang Mai that had Stihl brand oil (and bars chains etc). But needed something quick so went with the Eurox brand.

Stihl Facebook said  they  have no  stock when I asked them directly, also helpfully  didnt  say when/if they would  get more.
