BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health has given an assurance that COVID-19 vaccines are being distributed across the nation after a social media uproar followed announcements by several hospitals, that they were delaying administering inoculations due to a vaccine shortage, despite the government’s announcement it would start mass vaccinations on Monday, June 7th.

Following numerous critical messages of the vaccine roll out posted to social media, the Ministry of Public Health stated it is dispersing COVID-19 vaccines nationwide, noting it had distributed 2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine this past week alone. The doses are intended for use in remote locations with some still to arrive, but the ministry has given an assurance they will be available in time for the June 7th launch. It added distribution has been adjusted to weekly from a previous schedule of monthly.

The ministry’s plan is centered on fairness and comprehensiveness with its aim being an equal distribution across all provinces in relation to their populations and infection rates. Areas with high infection rates are to receive more doses in this period than those with few cases.

The government has signed a contract to acquire 61 million doses of vaccine from AstraZeneca and recently received an initial 1.8 million doses.

Sinovac vaccines have been arriving in the Kingdom since February this year, with the total so far standing at 6 million doses alongside a donation from the Chinese government of 1 million doses. Under a schedule to dispatch 2-3 million doses monthly, Sinovac is to provide the nation with 10-15 million doses.

Negotiations are ongoing with producers such as Pfizer to acquire more vaccines. The target is another 20 million doses by the third quarter of this year from Pfizer, negotiated by the National Vaccine Institute and Department of Disease Control.

Discussions have also begun to secure 20 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson brand vaccine by the fourth quarter of this year.

Chulabhorn Royal Academy is awaiting 1 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine due in June, which are to be made available to the business sector. The Federation of Thai Industries and PTT have already already expressed a desire to acquire the doses and indicated a demand for Moderna brand vaccines.

One thing stands out in the article.  The Thai government is finally in actual vaccine negotiations with vaccine manufacturers.  About 6 months too late.
I guess "better late than never" maybe.
I guess it's become beyond painfully apparent that Siam BS can't step up to the plate and produce the quantities necessary to meet contractual obligations throughout the ASEAN export markets and Thailand's domestic market.  It wouldn't surprise me if AZ gets sue out of business by the EU and SE Asian countries for its inability to deliver on contracts.  But - they made their bed.  Guess now they have to sleep in it.

What if find distressing are the continuing attempts to manipulate the truth in the face of the present facts - there are vaccine shortages at hospitals.
Anutin and his team will spew happy clap-trap but the facts remain.  Just admit there is a shortage and move on.  Lying does not instill public trust - but - they don't seem to give a da*m and just continue to do so.

More worrying is that there are people on here who condone it, yet should know better

Exactly . Corruption and criminality has governed this country since 1932 so it will not cease anytime soon.

Not trying to be smart aleck...

1. Is there anyone thinking they will try and 'register' for jab June 7.

2. Is there anyone that thinks that their previous appointment will mean anything.

Wake up! you will not receive a jab.  They need to be able to deliver. Queue up about October.

Since 1932?  You're being generous.

Mass vaccinations... nation wide, why do I see only 4 pick-ups?

Was there a penalty clause in the contract if Siam Bioscience don't deliver the required production quota?

I would be very surprised if some cronyism does not help.

The plan was always to stuff the mattress with money. The present reality must be chaffing some hiso painfully.

Are they truly so tone deaf, that they do not realize Anutin has less credibility than Brittany Spears?

Nothing he says can be trusted. It would be better for everyone if he were replaced with someone at least bordering on competent.

I only see 4 empty pick-ups.
