I am on my 30 day extension of my visa exempt stay, but just found out my return to my home country has been delayed until September. So, I will have to extend my stay, after the 30 day extension runs out.

Note that I must leave Thailand in September, so I am not that excited about filing for non “O” status if I lose that status after September due to leaving Thailand. I do qualify for a retirement visa otherwise.

The easiest path for me would be to file for a 60 day Covid extension, but I don’t know if that is available for those of us here visa exempt.

Any ideas how to stay until September?

You can apply for a 60 day covid 19 extension. A this time they can be applied for until July 29th.

If you applied for a 90 day non-o visa entry and then a extension of stay based upon retirement you could get a re-entry permit that would be valid to the day your extension ends.

Do you have at least 15 days remaining on your 30 day extension that is needed to apply for the non-o visa?

When does your current permission of stay end.

You can apply for a 60 day Covid extension to extend your stay.

Currently you can apply until July 31st, but I'm confident that will be extended to Sept 30th.

Yes, I do.

You could apply now for the non-o visa that would allow you a 90 day permit to stay. Then apply for the one year extension during the 30 or 45 days of the 90 days.

Requirements for the visa application are here.

It hardly seems worth it Joe if he has to leave in September.

It will require him depositing 800K in a Thai bank.

True but it might be worthwhile if he plans to return after September. No need to get a visa to return.

OP, simple solution. Obtain 60 day covid extension prior to your current permission of stay ends. Covid extensions will continue.

Agreed, but he'll have to keep that 800K in a Thai bank until he returns.

First off, does it have to be in a Thai bank, can it be in a US bank?

Second, no problem to put 800K in a Thai bank.

Yes, I do.

When does your current permission of stay end?

Which is your local Immigration office?

Although you need at least 15 days permission of stay remaining to apply for the Non O, the odd rouge IO require 23 days remaining.

As far as I know Chaeng Mai immigration is the only office wanting more than 15 days remaining.

I'm sure there is at least one more from memory (Koh Samui?).

Certain offices deviate or add their own small requirements not in any written order.

The answer is yes. Minimal paperwork.

Personally don't understand the suggestions re obtaining a non o (retirement). Means also obtaining a reentry permit. You have not indicated a timeframe for return.

Just obtain your 60 covid extension.

Immigration will have you sign this affidavit. Link below.

My only issue with doing that is that I am visa exempt, and have been told that Covid extensions are not possible for visa exempt.

You were given false information.

Tanoshi and Ubonjoe are the experts in visa forum. They correctly indicated that covid extension is option for your visa exempt entry.

When does your current 30 day extension end?

Many now obtaining Covid extensions entered VE, as far back as February 2020.

Whether it's worthwhile you applying for Non O > 1 year extension depends on how frequently you enter Thailand and how long you stay each time.

I'd still like to know when your current permission of stay ends?

With the covid extension can you apply a few days before your extension expires, because they give you a ten day under consideration period, you've gone past your extension of stay date until you go back to get your passport.or doesn't it matter.

Yes, there is no stated time you can apply early, but 7 days would be reasonable.

Whilst your 60 day Covid extension is under consideration you still have valid permission of stay.

Annual extension applications based on marriage also get an 'under consideration' stamp dated 30 days beyond the current permission of stay stamp.

Whilst your application is under consideration you cannot be on overstay.

Some offices grant the 60 day extension on the spot, without any under consideration periods.

It should be 60 days from the end of your last permission of stay, but I genuinely believe some Immigration officers are just to bone idle to change the date stamps for the differencing dates of applicants, so use the same date stamp for all applying the same day.

They are stuffing you around.

Rather than deal with normal imm office. Next extension just apply couple of days prior to expiry of current permit. Stuff them. You don't deserve this rubbish.

Cheers jack, I will be taking your advice, another thing,  I had to fill 4 pages of details in, more than when I'd got my 60 day extension due to my non o, I've seen the template on here and that was one of the pages plus another 3 others,,  they made my wife sign every page, she only come along for the ride didn't think  the covid extension was anything to do with her, good job she did. One of the officers said to her am I just doing this because I want to stay longer with her.
