Just google: motorized curtains

You will find ready made solutions and DIY projects.

I don't have personal experience with them.

Just a word of caution. I used to have these very many years ago when I still  lived in the UK. I had an apartment overlooking the coast and got motorised curtains that were operated by clapping your hands together.

The problem was that when my wife and I were engaged in heavy sexual activity the noise of our bodies slapping together made the curtains keep opening and closing. Now that was not too bad daytime but at night with the lights apparently looking as if they were going on and off it got mistaken as signal lamps by the mariners. Really embarrassing seeing the lifeboat crew asking us if we were in distress ????????

Clean work, good prices

I had them in a condo in VT7, expensive, 60,000 baht for the two main curtains in the living room and a small one in the bedroom. This was about 8 years ago. so......

The bedroom one was a waste of money, never used it.

The living room one on the sun facing window had the motor fail two times due to sun exposure they said. The others had no problem so i think they were right. When the motor failed they couldn't get the same model for replacement so I had to change out both.

My advice after my experience, don't do it. They're a nice party trick but mostly unnecessary.

I would never even consider it as an option again

Interesting, thanks for that.

Was the 60K inclusive of the curtains themselves?

Yes.

Curtains, inner and outer and hardware plus motors

Then go for the ready-made option, or get off your harse and open/close them by hand!   LOL

Must be tough having to draw the curtains.

You are basically having a go at the O.P., do you know his circumstances?

Probably not, drawing the curtains is impossible for me, maybe he is in a similar situation, you dont know that, please think before posting.

Motorized curtains are expensive and prone to failure because of the weight of the fabric - you will need some monster motors for blackout curtains like the poster says who paid 60K for some.

You might want to consider blinds as a cheaper option.

But following this thread, as I would like to have automatic curtains in the bedrooms.
