Hello,

I am planning to come to Phuket in July, can I book a flight to bangkok from europe and then take a local flight (3 hours between the two flights) to Phuket?

Thank you

It makes things tougher as you must buy a two ways flights, and what if i want to quit phuket after the 2 weeks... I will have to go back to phukhet once i want to go back to my country.... very stupid plan

You could buy an open-jaw flight so no need to go back to Phuket.

They are talking about organizing special flights from Bangkok to Phuket for new international arrivals only.  Passengers would be kept isolated from normal domestic passengers the entire time.

Nothing confirmed yet.  Best to wait and see what they announce when things are finalized.

I'm not sure that's correct - I'd be interested to see some evidence that you do need a return flight.

I think he means if you want to get back home after visiting Thailand you'll need a return flight, not that you need one as a condition for entering the sandbox.

An open-jaw flight as mentioned would support this without returning to Phuket after time spent elsewhere in Thailand, if that is what's meant.

There has been mention of passengers heading to Phuket being allowed to transit BKK, but maybe they'll hold off on that for a month?

Must fly directly to Phuket International Airport*
(*Passengers may be allowed to transit via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport. Awaiting full details. Updates will be added here when confirmed.)

The open jaw, XXX-HKT/BKK-XXX, might present some issues initially as embassies and carriers grapple with the paperwork complexities. Obviously an airline can issue an open-jaw.

...Any official information ???

The official information will probably come in the afternoon of 30 June 2021 and there is a good chance that it will state that the implementation of the "sandbox" is delayed.

It doesn't make sense.. what about people who already booked their hotels and flights?

You are right, it does not make sense, but most announcements so far about changes in rules under the Covid-19 decree have been made very close to the day before the changes took effect.

Nobody should have booked anything non-refundable.  They haven't even finalized or announced the details or requirements yet.

As of now with the sandbox plan, your first entry into Thailand must be through the Phuket airport. I've seen some confusion with the meaning of "direct flight." It means your arrival into Thailand must be directly to Phuket. You can certainly have stopovers on your way (e.g., London/Doha/Phuket) but right now you couldn't fly London/Doha/Bangkok/Phuket.

An open jaw means you book a flight that arrives in Phuket but departs from Bangkok. That is often the same price as a round ticket. Select "multi-city" when searching for flights.

Only if/when the special domestic Phuket-transfer opens in a secured area of BKK-airport with special transfer-flights to Phuket. Still only suggestions to my knowledge; i.e. I haven't seen any news about it's approved.

So the answer right now must be a "no"!

The direct THAI flight from Europe to Phuket seems to be bound for BKK as final destination, but with a first stop in Phuket to let Sandbox-passengers off. In the weekend it was mentioned in the news that combined only 100 seats where booked for Phuket on the four "direct" flights in the first week.
