COVID-19: Thailand reports new daily record of 53 deaths; 4,786 new cases

Thailand on Wednesday (June 30) reported 4,786 new COVID-19 cases and 53 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. 

● 4,659 new infections
● 127 prison / prison infections

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 259,301 with 2,023 deaths.
(Total infections since April 1: 230,438)
 
The news comes as The Royal College of Physicians of Thailand (RCPT) is urging the government to try harder and faster to procure sufficient, quality vaccines, including alternatives, to inoculate people in Thailand, to build herd immunity as quickly as possible.

Last night was reading about Indonesia.

These figures are not good.

Still blooming like a mushroom I see.  53 deaths is not good.  Cases are still moving onward in the community it appears. Also with limited testing. Headed to the immigration office for foreign workers for the GFs 90 day report here in BKK. Stay safe.

Twin peak time, peak in the rolling 7 day average and new peak in deaths. Rolling average will also hit higher highs over the next few days due to its data being 2 days behind.

 

Covid deaths now consistently above road accident deaths, on the 28th June the traffic accident death figure was 36. With the amount of critically ill and those in ICU than covid deaths have only one way to go from here, far higher daily numbers to come unfortunately.

Worrying in any case not that these are the real figures with the abysmal testing and whole pandemic management. They keep churning the same round about figures but anyone with any sense doesn't believe them.

Most deaths so far and expect this to go up. Yesterday 4,652 community infections today 4,659. Why so close to each other? Expect this to go up. Factory in Tat tests 1000 workers. Infection rate of 60%. No mention what variant but I expect Delta. Kalasin opens schools 14/06 and closes schools 30/06 saying reopen 13/07. 7 cases in a high school with at least one teacher testing possitive. The spread is on. 

p.s. Phuket opens tomorrow and within a week Thailand might move into the top 70 on the covid charts.

Indonesia is the delta, in Yala we have the beta currently as the dominant outbreak cluster, although delta here in Bangkok now accounts for over 25% of all cases.

Delta in Bangkok must be huge worry.

Worlds away in Oz couple of states have Delta and has been shown to transmit with "fleeting contact". Old news, but they discovered this in Oz through trace tracking. Traced a Delta positive person and looking for contacts. With CTV found that covid was transferred to a woman that had fleeting contact.

Chonburi Public Health Office has just announced they have 208 new cases and one more death. Most new cases are in Chonburi City (40), Bang Lamung/Pattaya (49), and Si Racha (76). The total cases so far is now 8,426 with 2,946 remaining in care

Keep in mind that covid related deaths are considered an indicator of what happened 2 weeks ago, so if the numbers are going up now for active covid cases it follows that deaths will be proportionally higher in 2 weeks time. Hard times still to come for some unlucky souls.

Exactly.  The whole reporting seems to be meaningless and I would think most people now just ignore it, and will do so until it affects them personally.

If these cases are spreading as they are, how does Phuket not have any cases or so few? They must not test, and if true, then the Sandbox scheme will be a true mess in 15 days.  Hold onto your seats boys and girls, a turbulent rocky ride is upon us.  At the immigration center now on Lat Prao with the GF and what usely would have been a garage filled with people is nearly empty....migrant workers have definitely fled or been locked down.

So you mean 90 day reports for migrant workers?

I was under the impression that they are always packed?

In Yala, and the other Infected Southern Provinces its the South African Variant ( Beta ), which apparently is just as bad, if not worse than Delta Variant ( Indian )

It appears to be the Delta Variant that is causing so much pain and anguish in Indonesia. It is 60 % more transmissible that the Alpha Variant, and becomes rampant very quickly.

I really hope that we dont get the Gamma Variant here in Thailand ( Brazilian Variant ) as its very bad indeed.

We arrived at 9am at the immigration center for her 90 days, and out now at 9:20.  Faster time ever, normally 3 to 4 hours. I guess with no one here and then this current case load they want them in and out. Tried to take a photo and was chastised and made to delete it.  Headed home.

Australia also has a lockdown policy of go fast and go hard although the NSW Premier is being critisized for not going fast enough. Here Prayut continues to open the gates and seems to encourage the spread. Thong Lor: Did nothing: Songkran: What ever will be will be. Workers camps: Off you go now to spread throughout the country.

The specific numbers are perhaps meaningless in the sense that they are inaccurate, but I feel it’s still possible to read into them to the extent that some trends can be identified. Whether up or down, spread to provinces outside the Bangkok core group and in particular, the percentage of delta cases.

 

but in terms of a specific number each day, you are right, that is meaningless.

So if case counts are highly understated and there is significantly higher community transmission than reported, but death counts are generally broadly accurate (easier to track), then what does that say about how dangerous Covid actually is? ????
