A 5,000 bed field hospital is to be set up in the compound of Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport and is expected to become operational in August. The new facility is being established to address the current hospital bed shortage, being caused by a continued surge in COVID-19 cases, according to Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob.

The Transport Ministry has been asked by the Public Health Ministry to set up a field hospital in the airport’s 100,000m2 area of the Satellite 1 building. The second floor will be used for intensive care units and doctors’ facilities, while the third and fourth floors will be used to accommodate mild and asymptomatic patients.

The new facility will open just in time, as the lease for the Bussarakum field hospital, at Impact Muang Thong Thani, will expire next month and the new field hospital, at the airport, will be able to accommodate three times as many patients, said the minister.

So I assume they will be turning off the air-conditioning so these 5000 infected tourists don't infect the clean ones in the airport.  Why hospitalise those with symptoms and who pays the hospital bill of those forced into a bed against their will because they sneezed? This could be an absolute gold mine and rake in billions.

Your last sentence encapsulates the main aims of these government members at all times.

To be closed by October when the doors open nationwide... can't halt Prayuts dream.

With the rate of increased Infections, this " Field Hospital " will be full to capacity within 3 Days.

The number getting Infected is outstripping the number released from Hospital / care by over 2000 per Day now.

There needs to be another 10 of these " Field Hospital " made available by the end of next week in order to cope with the Daily rising Infection rate.

Yes it makes sense to make a field hospital at the airport, considering the Thai government and TAT are

both trying so hard to get tourists back to Thailand. May be good timing for sure. Delta variant and the new Peru variant, and what ever the brazil

variant is named.  The airport is a great location.

Looks like an excellent idea.  They have an entire terminal that isn't needed because of Covid travel restrictions.  Nice building, air conditioned, completely isolated from passengers, yet with excellent transportation in and out- for patients, workers and all the equipment and supplies required to treat, feed and house patients.

That said, they're eventually going to have to let mild cases quarantine at home.  5000 added beds isn't even close to adequate.

At least  a nice view (I assume) of planes flying in and out of swampy.

Just hope it's soundproof and curtains so the patients can sleep in peace and quiet.
