But of course that would never happen with any tourists arriving in Pattaya ! Nothing but top quality, honest chaps that just want to sit in a bar and have a quiet beer and maybe a cheap Thai meal afterwards !

That would seem like a luxury now, but food panda, drinks at home, and a Thai qt to go off ThaiFriendly will suffice for now.

I wonder how they will control the border(s) to Pattaya...????

Unemployed bargirls in crisply laundered fatigues armed with those golf ball locating explosive detectors, of course!

They will also use the famed Air Force blimp to catch any wiseguys who try to fly in strapped to a drone.

You should know by now, they think of absoluterly everything -that could possibly bring in a fat brown envelope kickback.

I guess he knows Pattaya isn't an island?

Ironically - maybe he doesn't.  But "shhhhh."  Don't give it away!

Yet another press release designed to get another month's rent out of tenants here.

The vaccination rate will determine when Pattaya / Thailand can open up, not the Mayor.

the possibility of utilizing Koh Larn,

I didn't know there were any bars/working girls on Koh Larn?  Why would 'tourists' want to go there?

That is the only possible explanation.

There is one bar in the center of the island. Not a beer bar, but karaoke. Ever tried it?

Whenever they get to open Pattaya, it'll be interesting to see just how many tourists actually arrive.

The main tourist area and the bars were already in decline pre corona, and given the probably inevitable increase in air prices, insurance and accommodation, how many will be willing to pay the price?

I reckon there will be an initial surge, but a rapid decline once the first comers report that the place is still the same dump mess it was before.

That photo IMO explains just why Pattaya is a mess. They apparently heard the complaints about a lack of seating, and built some without any shade. Those seats must be pretty hot during the day.

IMO the entire "planning" of Pattaya in the past century has been an unmitigated disaster.

Freelancers don't tend to come out much before sunset do they?.......should be okay by then.

And officially they count one jab of Sinovac as fully vaccinated.

It is now mid July so they have 7 weeks to achieve even that.

At the beginning of May it was stated by the Deputy Mayor that the above would be achieved in August for the safety of the Americans on Cobra Gold. So that's sorted then.

Slight correction, re-read the piece and it said it was "hoped" 70% of the population would be vaccinated.

As long as they keep making statements in the media that give dates for opening, it's like dangling the carrot, and gives people hope, so they pay their rent, to stay in the game.

Even if they do open on these dates, covid will be everywhere among many unvaccinated people, and the death toll will rise.

What tourist would want to come here in those conditions, even if what is left of the bars are allowed to open?

"The Mayor, however, has stated multiple times that vaccines, including ones privately ordered by Pattaya City,"

wait, since when have individual cities been able to 'privately order" vaccines?

how does pattaya get to skirt around the dozen or so alphabet groups here to get their own stash?

Meanwhile, in the first batch of "fully vaccinated" tourists to arrive in Phuket, one person tested positive on arrival. Meaning he (or she) was infected long before they got on the plane. Now they are testing the others that arrived on the same flight.

But of course that would never happen with any tourists arriving in Pattaya ! Nothing but top quality, honest chaps that just want to sit in a bar and have a quiet beer and maybe a cheap Thai meal afterwards !

Nothing to worry about. Move along !

Why would one positive test among hundreds of arrivals worry a town where 10-20% of the population already tests positive?  When they can get a test...

Every infected person has the potential to become a super spreader, with tourists bound to be super spreaders.

That one positive tourist arriving has the potential to infect, say, 50 people, and those 50 people go one to infect thousands, all in the space of a few weeks.

It's the reverse pyramid.
