Did he tell him to do something or simply try to remind him masks should be worn in that situation? Who was initially in the wrong?

How would you react to any old Thai oik telling you to put a mask on......?

I have been in the situation and it was my own absent mindedness causing me to be wandering about without a mask, I certainly do not have a scofflaw attitude that this American exhibited... he made no move to put a mask on even as the situation developed. No he escalated it to abuse and insult and threats. Shameful behaviour.

Thai security..... you just know they stand around and do not get involved.

Only one person (or 2 if you include the GF) doing wrong here.

IMO he should have kept his yap shut, regardless. Nosy parkers don't prosper and all that.

If a Thai told me, well it's their country.

Well I would have too considering the person I would have to face up to....

But where does this faint-heatedness stop...

When you see someone being beaten up.

A child being struck.

Someone doing something very dangerous like tinkering with a live electric device.

Me persuading my gardener to put safety glasses on....

Trying to get my Mrs to wear her helmet.

Trying to get the WIN driver to take it easy.

Not my problem, turn my back, tail between legs.....

Sometimes people need to be called out for their behaviour.

Indeed, so it does not behoove a tourist to be trying to do their job ( all farangs, unless with PR or citizenship are tourists of varying lengths of stay ), unless he is a martial arts expert and can defend himself.

In any fraught situation, move away, walk away, leave, but mind one's own business IMO.

Except for the child being struck, adults make their own decisions and must take the responsibility themselves.

If it's someone being beaten up I'd notify the cops, but in these woke times getting involved can lead to US, the good Samaritan being arrested ourselves. One should think carefully before getting involved in other people's disputes. I've lost good friends because I tried to "help".

Except where someone is going to endanger another person, best keep out of it IMO. I tend to believe in the saying " no good deed goes unpunished" as it's borne out in practice.

He's in a restaurant, do you where a mask to eat?

Are they serving soft tacos?

The issues started outside where I believe a queue formed, and continued inside where the guy did not mask up when going to the counter ...... I believe masks should only be removed once sitting to eat.... but indoors at the ordering counter is certainly a place people should cover up.
