"Sinovac sucks."

 - A member of my immediate family who is also one of the U.S. Army's top infectious disease and virology specialists.

He's not only American but in the American military, both of which brainwash him against anything Chinese. That's a fact. I'm not defending Sinovac--we all know why it was purchased & continues to be so. For the fatcats to get fatter! Whether Sino is better than nothing or will improve with a third booster dose remains to be seen.

The trouble with vax is that they commit us to a process that cannot be undone--ever. So if you get a bad one, you're stuck with it. Adding a booster dose of something may work but there's an equal gamble it can activate autoimmunity or worse.

Kindly show me how you calculate effectivity. Don't forget to identify your test group can control group.

I'm just using the numbers quoted in the story...and stated that this result applies to this subject group only (Thai health care workers); Dividing the number of cases (or deaths) by the total number of workers.

I've already backed it up with links to article in my original post above. What about you?

Any medical student know that being vaccinated doesn't mean you will never be infected again. That's not how things work.

If that's not misinformation, what is?

To end this pandemic, all who got Sinovac will need a booster (other than Sinovac). It remains to be seen when a booster will really be needed for Pfizer or Moderna. If and when, they are preparing for that eventuality.

Yup, USA also didnt learn, they needed to be free and no one could tell them what to do.

It's ok then you learn hard way.

Some people seem to think that getting a vaccine means you can never catch or carry the virus.

It’s like using seatbelts in a car crash. Helps a lot but isn’t an invincibility pill.

In the UK it is now expected that people who have received the two vaccinations will need a booster jab in the Autumn and probably more as new strains evolve.  The Delta strain continues to rise every day.  It is not just Thailand that are not on top of this

Why is this so surprising & automatically attributed to Sinovac?  Has it not always been known that the vaccine...any vaccine...is not a bullet proof vest?  That you may still contract Covid but "hopefully symptoms will be lessened?

Truth is most if not all "regular" folks meaning non Medical workers

probably never get retested for Covid once vaccinated & assume all is well.

Even though they could have since caught Covid & were asymptomatic or have lessened symptoms to the point of going unnoticed.  Which in truth makes them Super Spreaders

Medical workers on the other hand are probably tested weekly at least so of course so this already known chink in the Armour of ANY vaccine against a constantly changing Covid Virus will be more often shown

This is exactly correct. A vaccine doesn't prevent infection or the spread of infection. They increase immune response to lessen the effect of the infection.

Unfortunately, the news rarely ever goes too far into explaining scientific facts.

Unless you are a dyed in the wool Tory who believes Bunter and his gang (people do!).....no one in their right mind would consider the UK as having got anything right apart from the vaccine roll out....and that was down to Vallance......not Bunter.

Sinovac not effective against Delta variant, AstraZeneca is

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/sinovac-not-effective-against-delta-variant-astrazeneca-is

Also the Mrna vaccines  protect against Delta although are slightly less effective, a few  points but it  seems that few medical personal that have used western vaccines have been reinfected or become seriously sick . Those using Sinovac have become seriously sick and even died  after being  fully vaxed with Sinovac. That is why Singapore, Malayasia and Thailand will shoot their Med workers with a booster of either Pfizer or Moderna.

I myself would take the Sinovac if available as it;s better than being unvaccinated but would immmediately get a booster of Pfizer or Moderna when available.

I am just wondering how the inactivated virus technology that has been used for decades in other vaccines is 'less effective' when it's the same technology.

Obviously, it is more prejudice than scientific.

The inactivated technology is rather hit or miss, and it takes time to find out. Meanwhile Covid is mutating with abandon. mRNA and recombinant are appropriate for this scenario. Inactivated can still be appropriate for stable viruses.

We will see what the final EC brought, 60000 people in Wembley.

Agree that Thailand should do better. Matter of perspective. Even the best vaccinated countries like UAE, UK, USA and Israel are reeling from rising infections mostly from new variants like Delta. These countries vaccinated with Pfizer, AZ and Moderna. Let's hope the Thai government can mobilized all their resources efficently and manage the surging cases effectively.

The situation in the US depends on the rate of hesitancy, which tends to be high in the South. In Mississippi only 33% have been vaccinated (47% of adults vs 67% nationwide). So the rate of infection is noteworthy there.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of propaganda going on against the Chinese vaccines because of prejudice. China use proven inactivated virus technology that has been used for decades in other vaccines produced by western countries.

Is there any unbiased reports to inform the Thai public that also report the surging cases in Israel (Pfizer), India (AZ) due to the Delta variant?

All the vaccine producers should come up with a updated version instead to deal with the Delta variant.

In India very few people have been vaccinated, while the cases in Israel cannot be described as "surging". Still, Israel is correct in asking vaccinated people to continue wearing masks. Pfizer has already submitted data for an updated vaccine, plus for a booster, though the CDC seems to think that a booster is premature. The Sino vaccine companies are less likely to succeed at developing inactivated follow-ons due to the rapidly changing virus and a low success rate for such vaccines.

Was this from a collaboration with BioNTech? They made some sort of deal with Fosun Pharma (Shanghai) in March 2020.

The government announced yesterday that first on the list to receive the Pfizer vaccine donated by the US would be frontline healthcare workers......presumably as a booster to the Sinovac they originally received.

My wife informed me yesterday that her niece, who is a nurse in Issan , was getting a booster shot this week  and that the Govt(or decision  makers )weren't  offering the Pfizer, it was the AZ !

Perhaps  the Provinces are exercising their own precautions and acting asap

Their drugs were mis and/or overprescribed in millions of cases, encouraged no doubt by the manufacturers. All this China bashing comes at a cost. Ignore what's happening in your own back yard. Opioid addiction, contaminated blood transfusion, cocaine. It's so easy to point the finger at China when you have so many problems back home.

'whataboutism' is tiresome. And where is the deadly opioid, fentanyl, coming from? A few years ago BBC has a great report on a village where half the families were making fentanyl. Nobody interviewed seemed to see any problem with that.

Your second link yields these two links:

It's interesting that this private Chinese company, in collaboration with the PLA Academy of Military Science, has registered a clinical trial with the US register of clinical trials. It seems that one Ph 3 trial is taking place in Mexico.

Aged 85 with various underlying medical conditions.docx

Aged 85 with various underlying medical conditions, I visited Bang Sue Vaccination Centre yesterday hoping to get a Sinovac shot.  The Astra-Seneca vaccine is contraindicated, because I have ITP.

Although I was indeed offered an Astra-Seneca jab – there and then- there was no alternative.

If anyone could tell me where I could get a Sinovac shot without delay  in BKK,  I would be most grateful.

Thank you in anticipation.

An expert panel has recommended a third dose to trigger immunity for medical workers who are at risk, senior health official Sopon Iamsirithawon, told a news briefing on Sunday.

Soon it will be monthly injections.  That will be floated out there because "it's recommended by experts."  No scientific studies needed, unless perhaps a study is slapped together with a poor design and ridiculously small sample size where any increase in anti-bodies means "It Works!" and then - monthly injections - $Cha-Ching$.  "Experts say."

Eventually, perhaps in a year or more, we'll be looking back to see that fully vaccinated communities still have no "immunity" and the concept of vaccine "herd-immunity" is about as common as a herd of unicorns.  That will confound the "experts" narratives that are backed by at best anecdotal evidence (if any at all).  The clarion cry will be - "You need more shots!"  Imho there is a huge profit motive here that actually trumps science.

The Chinese fentanyl makers, the Burmese heroin suppliers and the Colombian cocaine providers aren't forcing anyone in the west to partake in their odious creations are they?

Sounds more like your cousins have an axe to grind.

That is not the case in the UK.

you can, free of charge test yourself. The kits are readily available nationwide.

Maybe Scotland is the exception under the current 'misadministration' of the SDP

FIO...https://lloydspharmacy.com/pages/covid-19-lateral-flow-test-kits

How much does a test kit cost?

Tests kits are free, and can be collected from your local LloydsPharmacy in England, Scotland and Wales.

Report

Register your results online or call 119. A negative result doesn’t mean you don’t have COVID-19, make sure to follow Government guidelines and restrictions.

Of the 677,348 medical personnel who received two doses of Sinovac, 618 became infected, health ministry data from April to July showed. A nurse has died and another medical worker is in critical condition.

Well... that means:

only 0.09 % had a positive PCR-Test

and 0.0003 % died or were severely ill.

Since when are vaccines

-especially against viruses-

giving you a 100% protection ???

... also Pfizer, Moderna, J&J aren’t claiming that !

Life is dangerous and normally, it ends with death ????

Funnily, if driving with a car, or even on a motorbike without helmet, they never seems to think about possible dangers ...
