Sinovac.

Somethings better than nothing as the saying goes and it does still protect you from serious infection and hospitalisation, the booster will also get your antibodies rocking further up.

I'm supposedly getting Moderna in October too (if it arrives on schedule).

But, given the access to choice, use one that does the job longer term with fewer jabs?

So there we go. As suspected the Sinovac is useless. Almost 10% of those vaccinated have the virus. Thankfully, they know who they are and how to handle it in the hospitals but what if it had been those working in the hospitality industry or construction workers. We would have a massive fourth or fifth wave.

Think I'll wait for the Moderna or J&J vaccines.

Where do you get this 10% from? If the article is to be believed the percentage is 0.1

880 medical personnel, about 54% of them nurses and assistant nurses, were infected with COVID-19 between April 1st and July 10th, and of these, seven have died, according to Dr. Sophon Iamsirsithavorn, deputy director-general of Disease Control Department.

He said, today (Sunday), that over 97% of Thailand’s 700,000 medics are fully inoculated, adding that of the seven deaths, five of them were not vaccinated, one had received just one Sinovac dose and the other had received two.

He noted that most of the infected medics were among those who were fully inoculated, with the exception of only 173 who are not vaccinated.

Dr. Sophon also disclosed that the National Communicable Committee will meet Monday to discuss the third booster jab for frontline medical personnel, as proposed by the technical committee.

I guess that these hard working and dedicated Medical Personnel are what an Army would describe as " Collateral damage ".

It is disgraceful that  " only " 173 of these people where infected because they had not been Vaccinated at all. That is roughly 20 % of the profession.

But what are these people worth against 2000 or so Tourists in Phuket, where all the Population has been vaccinated to a level of at least 70 % ( if the figures are to be believed ).

These are the very people that could possibly save Thailand from the S@@t Storm they are getting into, and they are treated in this manner.

Words fail me.

My maths were never very good! However, 0.1% infected can do a lot of damage.

0.1 is very unlikely to be true too. There is no vaccine that good to protect 99.9% against the virus transmission.

If these figures are to be beleived, we'll done Mr P (sarcasm) another waisted time and money, why isn't the Government listening to health experts that the Sinovac vaccine is useless.

As Lung Too said we will have vaccine by next year, he said it and that is what he is sticking too.

Nothing made in China works

And as most of what is sold in Thailand originates in China, that's a problem.

I was working with a journalist colleague from China and, in my diplomatic way, asked him why everything made in China is such <deleted>. He was surprised and said that what he bought there was fine, so I suspect that Thailand buys the lowest possible quality as it's cheap.

Tell the PM to stick his salary where the sun don't shine, that's not helping anyone.

If he genuinely wants to help the public, along with all the other parliamentarians, give them an apron each and show them the way to the nearest hospital

So with all the other vaccines out there is it the case that after being vaccinated with these there have been no cases of Covid?

Sinovac was still a much better option than the alternative (no vaccine). Only one dead and one in critical condition out of 677,348 inocculated medical personnel clearly shows, that Sinovac is not bullet proof, but definitely not bad at all, which is exactly what the tests had showed.

As usual in Thailand, near enough is good enough. Except this time they are playing with people's lives.

.09%, considering the environment, circumstances and incomplete data set is close enough to a statistical zero that I wouldn't be worrying about it. The important numbers would be, of the 618, how many ended up on ventilators or, Universe forbid, dead. I'm guessing none, but we don't know. We're talking about a vaccine. Not a magical elixir. They will find that everyone will need a booster at some point. Some, like healthcare workers dealing with the highest concentrations of infected people, on a daily basis, will need them first and perhaps more often. This freaking article is just going to scare average citizens for absolutely no reason. We should be fully supporting every vaccine, when the alternative is none. And I see no statistical benefit of one over another, once the data from the controlled studies is analyzed correctly. None of them are great. But they're all good.

To add to an understanding of how vaccines work. All the clinical trials were done on the original China strain and not the Delta (Indian) strain, right? Correct me if I am wrong.

"Sinovac sucks."

It might be junk but none of them necessarily prevent infection including the ‘great’ Pfizer which we now hear can cause heart issues.

An anonymous poster cites an alleged anonymous family member. Impressive.

I am just wondering how the inactivated virus technology that has been used for decades in other vaccines is 'less effective' when it's the same technology.

Obviously, it is more prejudice than scientific.
