The latest Suan Dusit University poll has called on the Thai government to act in the wake of the plastics factory explosions and fire in Samut Prakan near Bangkok.

Many people were injured or died and there was widespread damage to houses after the incident in Bang Plee Yai.

Spring News said that the public reaction in the poll indicated dissatisfaction with poor city planning and disaster reaction and mitigation.

The pollsters asked 1,266 people their views between 6th and 9th of July under the banner of what the government should do in the wake of the disaster.

92% called for factories to be checked so that there is no repeat.

78.45% wanted to see better and faster emergency response.

89.78% called for compensation and health checks for those affected.

70.60% wanted the government to be more pro-active in addressing the issue of factories with local authorities.

59.11% wanted to see greater understanding of the problem of storage of dangerous chemicals.

Most saw this as the reason for the devastation.

69.99% wanted the government to concentrate on alleviation measures and protect the public more from hazards.

- Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you

It will fall on deaf ears at the moment....a far more serious issue is of greater concern..

........told to act......

........called on.......

........many people injured on died.......

Reports stated one person died

Sloppy reporting will not gain sympathy. Given the lack of zoning and enforcement of safety regulations, industrial accidents will continue to affect residential areas.

Next please......

my take, please correct me if I am wrong:

IF zoning were properly implemented, such disasters would not happen in a Residential Zone.

However, it seems the Residential buildings were put in an area where there are already potentially dangerous production facilities.

Now, this is an amazing feat.
> Zoning Authorities apparently without supervision.
> Property Developers blatantly disregarding H&S of inhabitants.
> Industrialists put in a difficult position with their back against the wall, and apparently without compensation being offered to relocate:
EITHER continue doing what they are permitted to do
OR risking Bankruptcy while trying to relocate the production facilities.

City planning.... please give me a break.

If move to live next to an airport expect noise.

If you live next to a chemical or any other factory expect hazards.

If you live next to a train line expect frequent disturbance.

If you live under an expressway expect no sleep....

Forget city planning in Thailand, just live in the right place.
