A construction worker was found to be simultaneously infected by both the Alpha and Delta COVID-19 variants, while six others were infected with a hybrid strain of the two, according to Director-General of the Medical Sciences Department Dr. Supakit Sirilak today (Monday).

Expressing shock by the finding, while reassuring the public the seven cases were not severe, Dr. Supakit said this is why it was necessary to seal worker housing facilities in and around Bangkok late last month.

The cases remain, however, of concern and follow-up monitoring is needed, to prevent infections by two virus strains at the same time from spreading to the point that the combination of the strains in a single host result in a new variant.

It's interesting how this virus really seems to want to almost sabotage the nasty class and racially segregated attitudes here by forcing them to take care of these poor sods, or pay the price later in the wider community.

I wonder if it will produce better leaders?

I wonder if it will teach lessons on how not to run a "democracy"?

I wonder if they will ever get a leader who will be serious about corruption and reform?

I wonder if the vaccines will arrive before these milestones in modern statehood ever appear on the horizon?

Infected with both Alpha and Beta varients reported on the same day on the other side of the world.

"She added that while there had been “no other published cases” of similar co-infections, the “phenomenon is probably underestimated”.

"...six others were infected with a hybrid strain of the two"...Soon to be called the "?" variant.

It's hard keeping up.

An infinite number. Same as all viruses.   Every time someone gets infected, the virus multiples and mutates ever so slightly and then the host passes it on.

You will surely enrage the vaccine is all powerful crowd with that one ????

But you are correct & it is the reason no vaccine for any covid virus was ever succesful

Same as why they have no vaccine for HIV which mutates even quicker than Covid's

But Companies like Pfizer are quite happy with the long term outlook for their boosters

You are 100 % correct with this post.

The Virus mutates all the time in order to survive, and to become stronger.

Some mutations will be less ' powerful " and others will mutate into something more Toxic, and more transmissible.

There are probably many Thousands of Mutations in circulation right now, but only very few become ( as the WHO says ) " Variants of concern ", which as variants that have mutated to become more powerful and harmful to us Humans.

..... and if it mutates in something significantly more transmissable but less harmful, it will fade out.

Just like most viral pandemics.

You don’t get it.

Covid-19 is different from other causes of death because it is extremely infectious. It takes severe measures to limit deaths to the 4 million so far. To the extent that certain people downplay the epidemic, the resolve to maintain those restrictions is weakened, as we have seen around the world. So, restrictions are lifted and more people die.

You can peddle your “the epidemic is no big deal” later, when the epidemic has passed. But, for now, you are spewing misinformation that would help kill people if anyone took you seriously.

You've really swallowed all of the media induced fear and added some of your own.  And yet you are still alive, as are most of the 7 billion people on the planet.

Also - when this pandemic is over, there will be another, then another.  Just not so newsworthy and no daft Government measures.  And now we have the technology to develop vaccines rapidly too.
