US announces Pfizer vaccine donation for Thailand - but no mention of its own nationals

Sanook reported that the US Embassy in Thailand had put out a notice announcing a donation of 1.5 million doses of Pfizer vaccine. 

 

The notice said that the value of the donation to "our oldest partners in Asia" was 30 million US dollars (985 million baht).

 

They put in the hashtag #friendspartnersallies.

 

The post said that this was part of wider help for Thailand and her neighbors to keep people safe and stimulate economic recovery.

 

But there was not mention of previous reports that a proportion of the donation was set aside for the US's own nationals.

 

Sanook didn't refer to this at all. 

 

They reported that key Covid-19 spokesman Opas Kankawinpong said the batch would arrive at the end of this month. 

 

The US Embassy release did not mention when it would arrive in Thailand.

Wait a second -  on Biden's first international trip he promised to gift 500 million does worldwide with 80 million delivered by the end of JUNE 2021  (7Million of the June allotment designated for South East Asia).  Those were never delivered right?  How many PR stunts in a row can the US pull without delivering any vaccines?

 

And of course - where the heck is MY vaccine. I'm American, paid taxes, over 60, and getting nothing but total BS from my Embassy.

Did you write your embassy...? I am a dual national and wrote both the Canadian and American embassy... at least the Canadian embassy replied to tell me I was on my own... still waiting for a message from the US embassy... 2 weeks later

The BKK US Embassy replied with a canned response. Nancy Pelosi's office (my congress person) never even responded.

They did throw this bone this morning...which was a re-toss of a bone from the Thai government.

You don't really think the US cares for its tax paying citizens  outside of its borders  do you?  They trust other countries to be honorable and foremost be equal in all things.  The US also believed an Asian country and it's peace delegates on 06 Dec 1941, the day before The Attacks on Pearl Harbor, all the while the government already had its agenda.  So if we don't learn that countries will do what they do, and do not learn this from history,  then whats the point?  The US government  needs to take the lead, and shore up its own citizens abroad, even if they are donating to foreign  countries.  Japan just donsted over 1.5 million doses of AstraZeneca with the stipulation 20% go to foreign people.  All through out the previous  weekend there were Embassies, on short notice that they were alloted 100 doses.  If you add up all the countries in the world and allocate 100 doses you still dont get 20% of that donation.  We know that not every country has citizens  or an Embassy here.  So if the math adds up and if this was the Japanese donations,  then its already shown that there will be no accountability.   Being that the vaccine has a shelf and climate life it stands to reason.  So where are the American government reps following up and putting fourth effort.? If history  has shown us, just like Marie Antoinette said, "Let them Eat Cake," the people in power will alwatys placate.  In todays reality there is no accountability within the US government.   No ones stepping  up and standing up for their tax paying citizens  abraod.  Other countries are taking a stand and actively concerned  for their citizens,  and vaccinating their citizens,  because  they know not to rely on the kindness of another country when it comes to their citizens.   But in classic American demeanor, the government  is acting like a term that the UK people use when someones a sucker (Mug), And people take advantage  of them.  In classic US action they are acting Like,"Mugs."  They continue to donate on a global scale. And hope that other countries have vales, you know like Integrity,  Loyaty, and a sense of Duty to foreigners, because the US donate so much.  Wake up US government  vaccinate your people and stop crossing  your fingers that other countries will take care of your people because  you are a "Mug" and just give away resources with not accountability or agreement.

I have many times, and even Congress.   I get the standard cookie cutter response.   You know the response the Embassy has saved so they can just cut and paste, smile at you and send you on your way.  They dont care.  Its not their realm of responsibility.   But if they had to evacuate they would leave no American behind.  I said evacuate not Vaccinate, but it should actually  be the same thing.  They are vaccinated,  and they have left their American tax paying citizens  behind.  Its every Embassy member for themselves.   Not one for all and all for one.  Its Embassy for Embassy  and everyone else can depend on the host country.  Then they shut the door and laugh.

So those of us that live outside Bangkok are expected to travel to the big COVID camp for vaccination, then to be interned until some unspecified time in the future, as travel outside a "Deep Red Zone" is not allowed.

They live in Thailand and probably don't pay taxes anyway so why should we provide for them? could be the reasoning why they didn't provide for their own people...

Sanook didn't refer to this at all. 

 10 percent of the total donation is supposed to be set aside for unspecified foreign nationals. Not clear where that 10 percent setaside policy originated from.

 

Yesterday, for the first time, the Thai govt disclosed that just 2,559 Americans had received COVID vaccines through the Thai government's vaccination program up thru July 19. Compared to 32,500 Chinese and even 4,242 French.

 

I wonder how that number compares to the total number of Americans living in Thailand?

You are. You should  listen to what Thai say.

 

They want Moderna and Pfizer. Many family members are registered for Moderna in October. They track vaccines like pros. This morning they were discussing the US Pfizer donation, said it will be here on the 29th. Most will go to front line medical personnel, some to high risk over 60s including some Farang, they tell me.  My monk nephew often sends me vaccine efficacy data. He's now studying vaccine mixing and is also signed up for Moderna.  They also view AZ favorably, a few have had their first shot.

Quite likely true but no one is going to advertise it.   They didn't pass FATCA because most overseas Americans are overwhelmingly reporting their non-US origin income and assets.

You are being treated identically to every other U.S. citizen.  It is widely available even for walk in at most pharmacies and hospitals throughout the 50 states.  The fact you chose to live overseas is your decision not theirs.  Just like Medicare coverage is not available when you move overseas, certain conveniences are consequences of decisions we all make.
