The Thai cabinet has decided to cut tuition fees at state universities by between 10% and 50% and by 5,000 baht per head for private universities to ease the financial burden on parents as the country’s COVID-19 pandemic worsens.

Reductions of tuition fees for students at state universities will be 50% for the first 50,000 baht of tuition fees, 30% of the fees from 50,001 to 100,000 baht and 10% for fees exceeding 100,001 baht.

Students studying at private universities will all receive a 5,000 baht flat rate cut, plus extension of the remaining fee payments on instalment basis. About 1.75 million students stand to benefit from the government measure.

Afraid the prepaid dorm room fees cost more than the 5000...

Right now slim chance even in August to start in person tuition, but it was paid ( unused whole July already).

Not the mention the irregular and limited online classes aren't why I have enrolled my son to university.

A total miss so far, likely this whole year will go worthless, maybe a must repeat.

Vaccines supposedly Q1 2022, even that is just a promise; how to asked normal university classes before?

We are still waiting for last year's promised 2000 baht from Mahasarakham University so I won't hold my breath for 50% for this year!

Our international school in BKK actually RAISED all fees by 10%, including lunch fees, etc.  The rebate for the last lost semester never came, instead they offered an insulting credit for a small portion of the lunch fees. They claimed costs had gone up substantially (they need to give pay raises to teachers so they can sit at home!).

They project to open on Sep 20 but the chance of that happening are zero.

Since the pathetic couple of hours per week online"learning" was a complete waste of time, we decided not to enroll this semester. Hopefully more will do the same, but I suspect the Thai parents will just quietly pay up.

In the end we quickly escaped to the US (forfeiting two months security deposit), got vaccinated, and will then go to Spain after a couple of months, but many won't have such flexibility.

What a fiasco for families paying huge fees for private / international schools.
