Popular Post Crossy Posted July 31, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 31, 2021 For those jobs that need a PROPER soldering iron. 300W of raw power and a lump of copper bigger than the one on my dad's "heat it on the gas ring" job. It takes a while to warm up, but I didn't notice the plug had come out of the socket halfway through the job. Thermal inertia rules OK! Pictured next to my 80W temperature controlled iron for scale. Bought for a specific job (where the butane torch was just too brutal) which it did perfectly. 3 1 "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
GregTN Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 I have been eyeing one of those on Lazada and was wondering if they were any good or not. I might have to go back and investigate it again now. 1

Chinese engineering at it's best. Wouldn't pass euro safety requirements, but we are not in europe! https://www.lazada.co.th/products/i105251987-s105874134.html It's 'kin heavy so forget any precision control over the beast unless you are an olympic weightlifter. 1 "I don't want to know why you can't. OneMoreFarang Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Let me guess, you don't do much with SMD. ???? So what was the reason for buying that monster?

I have one of them big buggers and the smaller one as well. I used to use the big one shoved inside a Quaker Oats tin when I was smoking meat. It sort of worked, but I gave up smoking meat a while ago.
tonray Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 I'm terrible at soldering...I only do it because I'm a guitar geek and sometimes you need to replace switches and the like...but I've got an non -working guitar hanging on the wall right now that needs a few cold joints redone...I've been procrastinating.....I guess I couldn't possibly make it any worse than it already is. Sigh... 2
