The last few people who crossed illegally from Thailand into Laos were sent to jail for 3 years and 7 months just last week. As the Thai government should be doing with infected Burmese immigrants. Lock them up in a special covid only jail. Let's get real. How are you going to stop the rise in infections, without getting a handle on that border, and shutting down the super corrupt Prayuth border official franchisees? Retired just before Covid-19 and became an ‘upcountry geezer’, as one poster disparagingly labeled us. So happy and lucky to be away from the big smoke, living in my wife’s quiet village in our own house. Nowhere better in the world to be stuck on semi-lockdown for two years and counting. Plenty of fresh delicious food, unlimited clean well water, cheap high speed fiber Internet. Yes, definitely “tired of the nonsense” of delayed vaccinations, worldwide media highlighting the very worst from every country around the world, lying and cheating politicians everywhere, restrictions on travel, resurgent Covid due to entitled nuts thinking vaccines are a conspiracy, etc... Agree with the posters above who say to stop reading the news. It can easily become an addiction and it will influence one’s outlook and mental health negatively. I am defnitely staying in Thailand, but can’t wait for the all clear for some nice long trips! Good luck all! Like that very much, and a very educated post. But who can you have personal conversation these days?

I.e. LBGT+/- and all that. 20 years ago it was normal to make jokes about those people. Obviously in the hindsight that was not nice but for most of us we were just joking. Live and let live. But now, how dare anybody even thinks that a man who wants to be a woman should not be allowed to go to the women's toilet or participate in female sport. And obviously male/male couples should be allowed to adopt children and all that. IMHO the pendulum swung too far. And there are other similar issues. I.e. migrants. I understand that people don't want to live in place x and they try to live in place y. But should they be allowed to do anything they want? I.e. if they arrive in what they hope will be their new home they often get food and shelter. But it seems for many that is not good enough. And again, if someone dares to mention that then people call you racist of things like that. One more crazy sample is the trend to promote fat women. Now it's not "allowed" anymore to even think that women should be ideally slim and pretty. We are not allowed to say fat women are fat women. We should support them and they should get the same jobs and the same salary and the same everything - except obviously in catastrophes. Then those innocent women (and children) are the first who should be rescued. At least I am happy that we don't have all that <deleted> here in Thailand. In the US, if they saw one of the 43 kilo, gorgeous, slim, sexy Thai woman, they would like want to pick her up, and rush her to the hospital to test her for anemia, and a host of parasites, and other ailments, to determine why she was so skinny and malnourished! It is insane the extent to which society is attempting to adapt to the ever larger female population, in a polite manner. You cannot say fat anymore. In the same way you cannot refer to a stranger as being sexy. PC is inane! The British Psychological Society is calling for changes for how we talk about fatness, suggesting we should no longer use the phrase “obese people”, but instead, “people with obesity” or “people living with obesity”. These changes are being proposed to recognise that fatness is not about personal choice and that fat shaming and fat stigma are harmful. Huh? https://theconversation.com/changing-the-terminology-to-people-with-obesity-wont-reduce-stigma-against-fat-people-124266 The debate is one we've heard on repeat. Top models like Ashley Graham and Tyra Banks have been vocal about their distaste for the term plus-size as a way to categorize clothing and people. Popular Post 55Jay
I was never all that enthusiastic about Thailand, however, for the first 5 or so years here, felt mostly satisfied and comfortable flying back in from annual trips abroad. That ebbed with each passing year though. Last return to BKK (pre-Covid), I stared out the window of the car as we drove out of Swampy and found myself grimacing at the grit and grime of it all. But, like coups and gubmint dysfunction, that's part of the tapestry in this part of the world. While I've been mentally ready to bounce for the last 3 or 4 years, everything's paid for and we have a fairly uncomplicated, comfortable lifestyle, so I'm afraid it's become a bit too easy to stay and float along day to day. The Comfortable Old Shoe syndrome. Soon as the mandatory arrival quarantine is lifted, or reduced significantly, we'll be feet wet and outta here for a mental reset, and see how it goes from there. 3

Popular Post BoganInParasite
Yes. We've placed our property on the market and will head to Australia. The wife already has a permanent visa to live and work there, plus medical coverage. We are not in that much of a rush as it may well take a year or two to sell at the amount we want. We'll continue with the homestay business until then although at the moment we've closed it till end September, likely only be a handful of guest group stays for the remainder of the year (if we are lucky). We don't rely on it for income and feel very much for tourism operators that do. Expecting maybe half will not reopen in our locality. Popular Post 473geo
Arrived 4 moths ago, despatched all the covid/quarantine paperwork with ease so no fear of what the Thai adminstration will throw at me. Carefully planned for years to quietly see my time out with my wife and family in Thailand, all the while keeping occupied here deep in Isaan. I won't think about what 'might' be, tend to deal with things adequately when they happen, all the while maintaining a plan b. My home country has been good to me (UK) and if not for my opportunity in Thailand it is there I could be happily retired. So nothing lost if Thailand fails to deliver. Thing is, my going to the pub every day and dining out was over extended in my younger years, that daily entertainment no longer holds real interest. So looking forward to many happy years in Thailand. 7

Neither of us see any hope for the future. . . . What will happen to change things and put this nation on a forward path with any kind of promise? . . . . . . do we want to spend the rest of our lives dealing with such lowlife leaders, moral degradation, and constant threats? You aren't dealing with the goon and lowlife leaders and all the rest. I'm not. As for officialdom, I mainly deal with Immigration once a year, for about an hour, otherwise do 90 day reports. Trivial. I simplify, not complicate. I deal with everyday Thais and enjoy doing so, too. They appreciate me now more than ever. ???? Officialdom isn't affecting your day-to-day life, normally. COVID restrictions, yes, but those are everywhere. Less than optimal response to COVID, true, but it's been the same in many countries, worse even. Suck it up. You don't really have a Thailand-specific complaint. The path of the Thai nation (OMG. The self-deluded pretentiousness) has nothing whatsoever to with you. Not your business. You moved here with no guarantee of any forward progress ever, according to YOUR definition. Backwards progress just as possible, anytime. Suck it up. If you love Thais so much, help individual Thais affected by COVID. Spreading around the same money you'd spend moving to Spain would be quite helpful. So, this hand-wringing for Thais is just phony. Conclusion What you're dealing with are simply your usual hellish brain-eating "Whither Thailand?" space monkeys that have plagued you for decades. COVID has obviously emboldened them. Your wife is probably tired of listening to you and hopes that moving will help you. But it won't. You also complain and pontificate all the time about world problems, and so you will about Spain as well (but on some Spain expat forum, heh heh????). One good thing she could do now is simply disconnect you from the internet. Brilliant! Find uplifting things to do and think about, stop sitting in the same old bathwater whining. When members invite you to LEAVE Thailand, they're thinking of your mental health and saving their time and webspace on this forum with the same ol' same ol' whines. A cruder method relating to the audio information channels: I'm afraid, though, that victims are seldom able to implement these solutions. The only real cure, which you've now recognized, is to move to another country. I'm thinking of one old member, who's had a blog and even written a few books, plagued by the hellish brain-eating "Whither Thailand? and Whither Pattaya?" space monkeys who finally ascended to Heaven, the UK! Been happy as clam, stopped all whining about Thailand, is enjoying all that good governance and fish 'n' chips there. Well, he may be complaining now on UK forums, but who cares? On the other hand, if you stay nearby, things may remind of you of Thailand too much, and you may still be suffering mentally, as is one of our expats who moved to Cambodia but hangs out here all the time. The plan was to just hop back over to Thailand for any major medical problems. Whoops. So, moving should work. I think no need to waste a lot of time researching. We have entire threads devoted to the topic. Just PM @Jingthing and he'll fix you right up, knows it all. Bon voyage!
