Arriving as a Sandboxer, and then visa change?

Featured Replies

As the title says, I'll be arriving in HKT as a "Sandboxer" next week, but will probably wish to stay long term. Will I be able to have an agent change switch me over to a more long term visa (not 50 yet, so no retirement visa) like ED or whatever "creative"-based solution they have there in Phuket? Money not really an issue within reason. Just looking for convenience and 100% legality. Elite an option but kind of a waste as I would only stay for a year and a half at most as I'm setting up my permanent retirement in the Bahamas and don't really expect to ever return to Asia afterwards. Thanks for any info.

I actually have arrived at my sandbox hotel yesterday where we all had our documents checked, asked to install the morchana app give a pcr swab and sent to our hotels,

the next day i got the all clear from my earlier swab and was allowed to roam the island free, i could have walked out the hotel even the day i have arrive coz no one pays attention to what you do and the hotel stuff barely know who's who, and i see foreigners walking around with no masks on, many shops and restaurants are open but many others are not, to me it seems that the sandbox policies and guidelines are very loosely observed here...

If you arrived with a tourist visa or entered visa exempt what you want to should be possible.

If you plan on staying in Phuket you may be able to start the process while still in the sandbox.

OP, under 60.

Use an agent to obtain non O (volunteering) and subsequent 12 month extension.

If your stay is example only 6 months then you could obtain 30 day extension to your tourist visa or visa exempt entry.

After that you could obtain 60 day covid extensions.

Depends how long your hoping to remain in Thailand.

Wondering if I could possibly stay at a hotel of my choice? I've traveled to Phuket every year between 2016-2020 and always stayed at the same place!

You could if they are a SHA+ hotel that is required for the sandbox.

List of them is here: https://www.thailandsha.com/shalists/index?type=2-โรงแรม ที่พัก และโฮมสเตย์
