Hi, is the re-entry counter at Suvarnabhumi open at all times for departing flights? Would prefer to avoid a trip to immigration.

 

Failing that, can I send an agent to CW to apply for a re-entry or does it have to be in person?

The re-entry permit desk at Suvarnabhumi is open when there are departing flights. 

The desk is located in immigration zone 2 before the departure immigration desks.

The real question is, do you want to have to purchase medical insurance for the entire duration of your extension. If not, come back visa on entry & apply for extension once here. Correct, Joe?

It would be visa exempt entry. If he followed your suggestion.

The insurance would be limited to time remaining on his current permission of stay and reentry permit will match that date.

Most would opt to keep their current POS and purchase a reentry permit.
