Thai Citizen Enter Via BKK Need PCR-Test???

Featured Replies

My friend, he is swedish, need of course to do a PCR-test before leaving Sweden for travel to Thailand...

But his thaiwife with thai-passport of course. is she off the hook???

I understand that thaiwifes/citizens coming in via Sandbox-Phuket need to do the testing, but

coming in via Bangkok, do she still have to test?? Or not??

Anybody who knows??

Thank you,

glegolo

My daughter who is Thai/British dual national travelled to BKK 2 months ago and didn't need any tests....................

As I understand she'll need to be tested 72 hours or less before arrival. It can be an antigen rapid test though (cheaper). I might be wrong and happy to be corrected.

Yeah I have actually a hard time to really believe that. It is so strange when looking at the embassy website you can find all kind of information, but a straight direct sentence clearing up if PCR-test is needed or not needed, is still to be found. However I saw that they wrote that PCR-test for all arrivels to Phuket Sandbox is needed BOTH for foreigners as well as for thai people...

But still, thai peoples arrivel to Bangkok,  do they need it or not?? And can the different airlines also force thai people to be tested in order to be able to board their aircraft???

You have to look on embassy websites Thai language version  to find it.

Google translate of this page.

"Step 7 Documents to be prepared on the day of travel

It must be taken as a hard-copy document. Travelers cannot use electronic documents (such as mobile phones) to show to the staff.

1. Passport (or emergency travel document – ETD)
2. Airfare
3. Hotel reservation ASQ
4. Certificate of travel (COE)
5. Covid-19 test results in case of airlines or countries that pass through

Upon arrival in Thailand, additional documents submitted include:

1. ThailandPlus Application
2. Form Tor 8"

A test is and vaccinations are needed for the sandboxes though.

Also not mentioned other than for the sandboxes here on the COE application site for Thai's.

Thank you so much, So Joe, if I get this right, for thai ctizen leaving Sweden, there might be a "risk" that the airline in question demands a test from the thai traveler??? But Thailand itself do NOT demands it. correct!!!!

That is something a Thai needs to confirm with the airline they will be traveling on. That is why they have that caveat written in the requirements.

It certainly is not required for Thais to enter Thailand and to get a COE.

In my opinion a Thai should get a test if possible to avoid problems with the airline and any countries they are traveling through. Also being infected on arrival here when the first test is done also would not be a good experience either.

We will go to bangkok from norway sept 20th.

Wife thai.

We both need prc within 72 hrs.

We both need 2 weeks hotel "holiday" in bangkok at our expece.

At the moment wife say we also has to do "home quarantine" coming to buriram even if we go directly from AQ hotel door and into taxi :-)

For Coe phuket sandbox I had to pay for PCR test x3 For my Thai wife as part of her application - which I sent currently awaiting approval

Thai nationals are exempt from the PCR test requirement however the airline may require one in order to board.  We just returned to Thailand Aug 5th and not taking any chances both my Thai wife and I were tested and had the proper documentation to prove it.

Upon our return to Udon Thani from Bangkok after 6 weeks in America,  the local headman initially required a 2 week home quarantine.  The following day we were taken to the university for testing.  Showing a negative result, the home quarantine was lifted.

A Thai National must have a COE to return to Thailand?  Can you answer that? Thanks

My Thai friend is here in USA now and I did not know they need it.

it is certainly required for a Thai to have a certificate of entry to travel to here.

They can find info in Thai here on the Thai embassy in the states. https://thaiembdc.org/infoforthaisflyinghome/
