Vietnam to move ahead of Thailand at some point. Only total cumulative cases below Thailand.

Daily + and deaths move ahead of Thailand and that's with tough lockdown.

and nearly 50% greater population

It's really expensive.  The UK blew £37bn on test, track and trace and even with that amount of cash it is widely viewed as a waste of money that did nothing much to change the outcomes (https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-health-coronavirus-britain-trace-idUSKBN2B2009).   Maybe the UK can blow that kind of money without too many consequences, but over here I think that money (if they had it spare) could be better used to help those who have lost all of their income due to the lockdowns, or used to acquire hospital beds, ICUs etc.

Good call.

Imagine of that amount of money was wasted over here. The daily ‘corrupt government’ posters would have a field day. As it is, according to many, they can’t even buy a vaccine!

Wonder at times which  governments are more corrupt.

Exactly how is it a good call, its to do with the UK? They do not have that programme over here and never will, so its completely irrelevant.

Contact tracing here is carried out by health volunteers and issuing timelines.

No I think many temples are in need of a refurbishment and the airforce and navy always need subs and new aircraft plus their has to be plenty in the pot for the annual allowances etc, so not much available for the people.

Thailand confirms first case of VITT linked to AZ jab

Thailand found one confirmed case of vaccine-induced thrombosis and thrombocytopenia (VITT) caused by the AstraZeneca shot, after more than 15 million doses have been administered, the Ministry of Public Health said on Wednesday.

There was also one confirmed case of heart inflammation linked to the Pfizer jab, they said.

a lot of that $37bn was spent on payments to people who had to isolate due to contact with the infected. Do you think those people should not have been in isolation, ie allowed to walk around, or should they not have received compensation?

It’s £ and not $.   Most was spent on testing.   It has not all been spent (yet).   None of it was spent on paying people to isolate.

i agree.  i think testing programs are great very early on.  hopefully, it is possible do to the contact tracing and try to isolate areas of infection from areas that are clear of infection.  but once the virus is widespread, i don't see the necessity for mass testing.  you know where the cases are when people show up to get a test because they feel sick.  and such test comes up positive.   i think many 'experts' have suggested monitoring hospitalizations is a better metric than cases once the virus is widespread.  there may be a time when testing in thailand is helpful again, once this wave dies off and there is a need to detect where the next one takes off.

So the WHO rhetoric of 'test, test, test' , and if your getting above 3-5% positivity from test you need to test more, is totally wrong then? Idea of random/mass testing is to spot an outbreak before it gets out of hand. By the time people are turning up at hospitals the outbreak/cluster is well established as it could have been ongoing for a week or more, plenty of time for many to get infected from one case.

Thailand records 20% infection rate among those tested for COVID in past 40 days

The Thai Medical Sciences Department has reported a 20% COVID-19 infection rate among people undergoing tests in the past 40 plus days.

Of 40,007 people tested on September 4th, at 288 of the 375 authorised laboratories across the country, 8,804 tested positive, representing an infection rate of 22%.

From January 1st to September 4th, 12,575,261 people were tested and 1,026,043 were found to be infected, said the department.

https://www.thaipbsworld.com/thailand-records-20-infection-rate-among-those-tested-for-covid-in-past-40-days/

So for the year 2021 so far an 8% positive rate. Going by the WHO 5% threshold for adequate testing more needed as Dander would say.

Foreign Ministry denies being lax in procuring jabs from other countries

The Foreign Ministry on Wednesday dismissed accusations that it has refused to cooperate with other countries to procure Covid-19 vaccines.

He gave the example of Thailand's recent vaccine swap with Singapore, similar to the deal done earlier with Bhutan.

"Singapore was willing to deliver 120,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine in return for Thailand's donation of RT-PCR test kits at the beginning of Covid-19 crisis," he explained.

What's the point?

!00% agree - testing to prove what is already known is a waste of $$. Focus on getting the vaccine rolled out (old/sick first  to reduce hospitalisations/deaths), then get the country open. Time to follow the world and live with Covid. This could have already been accomplished if the dipsticks had joined covax etc.

True , but they far from alone in this case ( not the covax program , but the general covid programs ) . Anybody with a single braincel does know that this is soo widespread that basic testing solves nothing , we are all going to get it . So , everybody should get a vaccine ( mandatory imho ), so that the hospitals do not get overrun ( the big problem with covid ) and try to follow up on the spread/mutations . As long as hospital beds are being filled with covid patients , we are in high rules country ( not only Thailand ) .

Agree with the dipsticks but without ramped out testing its possible for the virus to brew silently especially with the easing of restrictions, if thats not monitored well then we're back to square one, lockdowns, nobody wants that to happen again.
