if you go to Settings > Announcements then look down the list of announcements, there are paragraphs on both Back up your history and How to transfer your account.

I do seem to recall that you needed to register your account with phone number and email address to do it.

If you have the latest version try this: Go to Settings > Chats > Chat History Backup.

I needed a file once as proof of our relationship so I could bring my girlfriend to Australia .

For me, you go to the top right with the 3 lines, then Other Settings, then Export Chat History, and you can create a file.

i dont have 'other settings'.....

in any case i went into ....Home/Settings/General Settings/Chats and at the top of chats its got Back up and restore chat history

according to this my chats are backed up to Google Drive every day

but im very suspicious this is not happening

1. because i looked in Google Drive and cant find anything (under Line, chat, back up)

2. the total file size of my chats is 1.6Mb which just seems low to me

im also worried becasue im sure ive done this beofre and lost all my chats.....ideally i dont want that

i dont see any option of backing up my chats to any other cloud or device

im still stuck

This is what Line say as I think you have read -

Images and stickers are not backed up with your chat history

So that would account for a smaller backup footprint.

The only other way is to backup individual contacts chats is by exporting the chat history as a text file. (But note you cannot restore from them)

You used to be able to save chat history as a separate file but they did away with it and basically reverted to Google Drive - which is a pain for me as I don't use Google.......

Not sure if a third party program could do it but not aware of one.

LINE is an overly bloated POS app, like FB

install LINE lite instead, and for FB install Messenger, there is nothing to gain to add the full version of those silly apps developed by clueless Indians ????
