Popular Post swissie
Rejoice Farangs! No major war in the northern hemisphere for 70 years. An accumulation of wealth for most. After the 2nd world war, (econommically), it was only up and up for most of uf us having had the privilege to be born "North of the Equator" Making it possible to enjoy a retirement-heaven in some foreighn lands for many of us, at a relatively low price. Former generations had no such privileges. Nor will future generations have such privileges. Us old geezers are the "golden generation". ( A rare "window of opportunity" in recent history). Nothing like that before, nothing like that after us in this form or shape. Our sons and daughters will eventually envy us, as they will not be part of any future "Golden-Generation" anymore. In short: The fact, that the price of Beer goes up and Immigraton-Rules are getting stricter globally, should not distract us from the fact and the realisation, that we are still the last "Golden-Generation". Not to be followed bay another "Golden-Generation". Enjoy, and above all, stop complaining. We are the last of the Mohikans. 38 11 2 2

GammaGlobulin
What is a Mokican? Similar to a Mohawk When I was a young lad, I fished with native Americans in Roanoke. Mostly, we fished from canoes made of birch bark. 2 1

Who would have predicted the internet 100 years ago? I agree we all should be happy with what we have , but not so happy that we don't strive for, or demand better. Bitch and moan I say. GammaGlobulin
Has this OP ever visited the Golden Walmart Family bunker? The problem with immense wealth, and the resultant bunker, is that one tends to go crazy, locked up in the bunker. Anyone here, after 19 months of lockdown, wishing to be locked up in the Walmart bunker? Raise your hand, and you will be banished among the rich and famous. 1 1 1

GammaGlobulin
James Fenimore Cooper was a proven idiot. Name the author who satirized Cooper, now, and you win a cheap bauble. Guys from the UK should not mention the unmentionable.

GammaGlobulin
It was Mark Twain who satirized James Fenimore Cooper, best. Unfortunately, Twain is not alive enough, now, to satarize the OP. But, even IF Twain were alive, he wouldn't have devoted spit doing so, most likely.
cdemundo
OP is not alone, and probably not independent of sources. Notably Steven Pinker documents a lot of the things Swissie talks about. Can you compare Afghanistan to WWI? Numerically? As much as drones are detestable, they kill orders of magnitudes fewer than B52s. Most of Pinker's examples are numerical in nature. Pinker documents these numbers in "The Better Angels of Our Nature". Not looking to defend or attack this position, just that the OP is not alone in these ideas.

bkk6060
Thailand will be due for some big inflation. Just wait it is coming when the demand increases. Those 30,000 b a month UK pensions could well end up being a semi-poverty lifestyle. Some will no longer be able to afford it here, unless they decide to live in total obscurity. The big dream soon, could well turn into a nightmare. Edited October 22, 2021 by bkk6060 2
