PCD introduces systematic management of burning via Burn Check app

BANGKOK (NNT) - The head of the Pollution Control Department met with officials and locals in Lamphun province to discuss air pollution and to introduce the Burn Check mobile app for systematic management of burning, aiming to mitigate the problems of particulate matter and haze.

 

Pollution Control Department Director-General Athapol Charoenshunsa had a meeting to discuss prevention guidelines for addressing the issues of airborne particulate matter, smoke haze, and wildfires with officials and members of the public in Li district of Lamphun province. The Burn Check mobile application, developed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency, and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, was presented at the meeting as a tool to combat the air pollution problem.

 

Members of the public, farmers, and officials in the district will be able to use the app on Android as well as IOS devices. Those who want to dispose of plant matter by burning may make a request via the app and wait for approval from the district-level coordination center. The application provides information on the amount of airborne dust as well as air quality, which are used by officials to consider whether or not to approve burn requests.

 

Mr. Athapol met with locals in Ko subdistrict of Li district, and took the opportunity to explain pollution-related policies. He also encouraged the locals to pitch in and help reduce open-air burning, in order to sustainably address the problems of forest fires, smoke haze, and particulate matter.

Do they get Wi-Fi signals in the hills where the burning takes place?  

And more importantly how many hill farmers know what an app is and have smartphones!

So absolutely no intention of actually stopping the burning..just "management"  meaning it all still gets burnt  but they all can take turns at it  instead of doing it all at the same time...great !!!

The last time they were spraying water mist with molasses at street junctions.

Meanwhile on every corner vendors are burning chicken bits after marinating them in car exhaust fumes for several hours supported by packs of hopeful wild dogs.

These people are an absolute circus. Why do they waste time pretending??? I'm CERTAIN this will be a raging success. It just relies on Thai country folk to follow the rules. No chance it will fail.

Yet another General who does not have a clue and is no doubt being paid a high salary to appease the hi-sos who are largely responsible for the burning.  You need to grow a pair General and deploy you under employed soldiers to get into the hills to look out for burning and report it to the authorities immediately and then prosecute those who are not only killing the population, but are making a very large contribution to climate warming.  TIT!

Some people died already here in the Northern mountains. Of smoke? ....- No, because of laughing about this app.

Looking at the Ventusky weather app, the pollution seems to always originate from Bangkok.

Look under 'air quality' .

None is shown as coming from farmlands.

How reliable this app is, I don't know, but it raises questions.

They are not wasting time.

Pretense is their actual job since they don't actually take any other effective actions.

 

In other words, fabrication of reality is all that are good at and even that is arguable since few people believe them.

It is time for me to burn the plant matter that I have cut during the wet season before it overruns the yard and before this is in effect.

 

Shame but nothing else for me and all the village folks everywhere to do with the waste from trees, bushes, grasses, etc that must be cut each year.

 

Perhaps some of the anti burners on here will have a viable solution, but I doubt it.
