PM calls for country transformation after reopening

BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Prime Minister has invited all sectors to take part in a country transformation, following the country’s reopening to international visitors, with the new chapter of tourism being one of the main focuses.

 

Following Thailand’s reopening to international tourists, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has urged all sectors to collaborate in the country’s transformation towards the New Normal in every aspect.

 

At the latest meeting of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration, the Prime Minister ordered government agencies to find new ways to thrive, starting with areas to which changes could immediately be applied, while at the same time pushing for positive changes to infrastructure development to attain sustainable growth.

 

In response to this new vision, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched the new tourism concept “Amazing Thailand, Amazing New Chapters” to promote Thai tourism next year, with a focus on the New Normal, health, and safety.

 

The new concept aims to deliver new and more wonderful stories and experiences that meet all tourists’ needs, with campaigns promoting this concept being rolled out from now until the end of next year.

 

The TAT expects the tourism industry to be different due to the changing consumer behaviors towards the new normal.

 

The TAT anticipates that tourism businesses will need to change their business models to better focus on quality, rather than the number of tourists, as well as diversifying their target audiences to include both long-distance markets such as European countries and the Americas, as well as short-distance markets such as Asian and ASEAN countries so that they do not have to rely solely on a single market.

and there is no such a thing as "NEW NORMAL" .................. Thailand is either a free country or heading towards a country of dictatorship and draconian laws inhibiting freedoms - this is very dangerous talk and is giving a hint of what this man is thinking - this is what his so called "NEW NORMAL" actually means - it's a nice set of words to describe something very much more sinister 

 

anyone that has a business that doesn't fit the sinister so called "Amazing New Chapters" can forget about it if this man has his way, one very obvious clue is the current attitude towards pubs bars nightclubs gogo bars etc - they are using covid in an effort to destroy those businesses

Well....I can say what they truly excel in is the flowery and whimsical rhetoric of newspeak, Thai style - mixed with the effervescent Thai Magic Dust of misdirection and sleight-of-hand.  They're very good at what they practice.......never ending.

Of course they're referring to those certain types of businesses they'd like to disappear. And just where are all those people going to go?

 

The many ladies themselves, then their many support staff, cleaners, cashiers, security, management, delivery people, a vast network. Where are all the "legitimate" new jobs waiting for them?

 

The farms have their people. Construction brings in their migrant labor. Factories are being shut left and right. They aren't educated for office work, nor are there enough offices and the commerce they require, if they were. Along with their undesirable businesses, it appears they'd also like those undesirable people to disappear as well.

A tourist wants to get in, lay on a beach, see a wat, eat some street food, have nice dinners, care free, relax.  

They don't care about silly catch phrases, logos and the like.  

There is no care free vacation right now in Thailand.  It's impossible.  You are always worried getting ready, flying in, and jumping through the hoops.  Be it Thailands fault, COVIDS fault, or whatever it doesn't matter - this isn't going to fly.

When did Thailand rely on a single market before?

I've been telling people here in the US that seems to me about a third of the Thai population is currently unemployed or seriously underemployed. Nothing this government is proposing looks to help that very much, even for another generation.

I compare Thailand to Berkeley CA where I've spent much of my life: they both had a silver spoon handed to them gratis which made it almost impossible for them to fail. Berkeley has a University of 40,000 students and staff in a town of just over 100,000 regulars; the city council can fund any pet project, business has it great. Thailand had almost 40 million tourists per annum, they could do no wrong till it blew up, and plan B seems a concerted grasping at straws.

I think I got it, Less tourists visit my café so double the price of coffee, very easy.

The visas/travel requirements are designed so complicated that especially for the older folks its no longer doable. Long term staying should be promoted these people will be less of a corvid risk.

I would prefer to have the ' old normal ' of the 80's and 90's back ...

Nothing will change without a major focus and drive with huge effort from the government. Or, to put it another way... Nothing will change.

gogo's and the sex industry in general including ST bars etc (soi 6 pattaya) are not part of Prauths plan, if you have a business in that sector I think you are going to have a problem, personally speaking I wouldn't care much in they bulldozed soi 6 pattaya and revoked the licence of every gogo bar and seedy joint in Thailand - they need to make their intentions clear instead of all this new normal ##, either have the dump or get off the pot

Why not start at the nations capital then..... Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza and many many plush massage places..... ? Pattaya is a bit player.....
