At the end of this month, Malaysia and Singapore will allow anyone fully immunised against Covid-19 to travel freely between the two nations.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong issued a joint statement this evening announcing the opening of a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) on November 29 between KLIA and Changi Airports.

Travelers will just be required to take Covid-19 testing under the VTL, rather than the previously needed quarantine, according to the statement.

"The VTLs constitute a significant step forward in the long-standing Malaysia-Singapore partnership.
The VTLs will allow travel when our two countries properly restore their borders, balancing the need to recover our economy with the need to protect our people from Covid-19.

"I am looking forward to the proper implementation of this travel plan, which will be added to those we have already devised to facilitate people and commodities transfers between Malaysia and Singapore," Ismail Sabri said.

Both administrations noted in the same statement that travel across land linkages between the two countries is on the horizon.

"They were pleased to learn of the progress made in ongoing thorough discussions on a comparable vaccinated travel scheme to resume travel across the Causeway and the Second Link, taking into account the public health situations in Johor and Singapore," the statement continued.

The government has previously stated that special vaccine travel lanes would be established to facilitate cross-border travel between Malaysia and Singapore.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri stated at the time that talks between many ministries from both nations were in the works.
