I'm guessing that if some expat multi-millionaire expat strangles a prostitute, chops her up, and uses his yacht to dump her remains out at sea, immigration will need to come up with a new slogan:

 

Rich Guys with issues OUT; Rich Guys without issues IN.

He'd do better to recognise the important contribution made to keeping parts of Thailand's economy and some of its people afloat during the pandemic by the many expats already living here, supporting their Thai families and the Thai people who do jobs for them, and spending their money here in locally-owned businesses, rather than in hotels owned by multinational chains or on zero dollar tours. How about it, Prayut, make a list of all the foreigners who've stayed here and helped the country over the last 18 months and offer them permanent residency and the right to own one rai of land for residential purposes. It would cost the government nothing but would earn you a great deal of gratitude and respect, as well as potentially encouraging many more foreigners to move to Thailand.

Just those 2 would be enough to make me smile, and do away with the 90 day pulse check.  If not here, would inspire me to take a better look into coming to Thailand to retire.

 

For single people who would like own or to invest in RE, would be very appealing.  Not everyone has a Thai wife, and condos rely too much on the economy, tourism, and not the best buy & sell investment.

I have never experienced an immigration officers saying that a slight error in the paperwork, or missing one out of 4 required signatures was not a problem, lets stamp your passport and work it out later.

 

In fact, an immig officer made a mistake one time, and when they realized it a few years later, said too bad, you need to do all this to fix it.

 

 

Same thing happened to me! When I moved to Bangkok from Khaolak, CW told me “they made a mistake in Phang Nga “. I asked how that was my problem but they just walked away. 20,000 baht later an agent “fixed” it!

Actually not too far from the truth for those that appreciate the benefits, rather than moan about a bit of necessary bureaucracy.

 

I today received my first annual extension due to marriage, credit due to the immigration guys, they have walked us through the process, checked the detail will pass approval above, all done and dusted now, in a couple of visits, just half a day out, bite to eat, and a bit of sitting around, have been made to feel very welcome in Thailand.

They should make it mandatory to have a lifetime membship at golf course, platnium card holder at go go bar and most importantly monthly direct debit of at least THB 50k to Army Benevelent fund.

Giving foreigners property rights, especially if they are married, would not only attract many wealthy foreigners, but it would, overnight, put an end to love scam marriages entered into by village girls looking to dupe unsuspecting foreigners into purchasing land and real estate and registering it in the girl's name.

 

If Prayut and Co, think that marriages between older foreign men and younger Thai women are unseemly and sully Thailand's moral reputation on the international stage, taking away this incentive for Thai women to enter into these marriages for ulterior financial motives would do more to improve Thailand's social fabric than any crackdowns on red-light districts will ever do.

Politically and bureaucratically the nation is broken. It's ok as a cheap haven for some under certain conditions but people with money have options.

 

Finally, there are no such people anymore as digital nomads lol.

ROFL. They need to ask the question: "Why do these people go to other places rather than Thailand?"  If I had the sort of money that Thailand would find appealing then I would move to Monaco.  Far more politically stable, far less administrative hassle.

You couldn't be more wrong. In over 20 years nearly all the Thais i have come across think the UK is the greatest place in the world.

After a few trips over there my wife came to realise how wrong she had been all these years. And as for the bureaucracy, if Thailand were the same there wouldn't be any TVF for whinging expats.
