Thailand on Thursday (November 11) reported 7,496 new COVID-19 cases, 7,452 recoveries and 57 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 1,968,106

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,853,210

Thursday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,996,969 with 19,883 deaths.

The news comes as General Supot Malaniyom, Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC), gave an interview to the Associated Press yesterday afternoon, November 10th, regarding the general situations, plans, and concerns of the Covid-19 situation during the country’s reopening.

The General is also prominent with the “small” Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, or CCSA, proposal committee that specifically proposes and deals with restrictions and measures in the country. These proposals are then sent to the “full” CCSA committee chaired by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan O’Cha.

Supot said that the overall situation is going well. There may be some minor problems since the reopening but related agencies have managed to solve them already.

Looks like we have a slight uptick on that bumpy ride down in the total number of cases.  I wonder how many are prison numbers, and how the Hospital beds are doing, as far as percentage available.  Wonder if it is because they increased the ability to test more of what?

Maybe but I think testing remains pretty much the same which is low and this is reflected in the daily numbers which jump up and down a bit but no real sharp drop or increase. Those in care seems to have remained just under 100k for a long time now.

Taken from today's Thaienquirer summary:

Meanwhile Public Health Minister – Anutin Charvirakul, has come out to say that he’s thankful to all sides (opposition and others) for recommending not to ride on a single horse but to diversify the vaccine procurement and this has paid of as we have all sorts of vaccine now.

 Thailand under Anutin’s management had only gone for the ineffective SinoVac and the AstraZeneca that is produced by Siam BioScience (a company owned by HM the King) as the only vaccine for Thailand until the public and opposition called for diversification of vaccine procurement as the DELTA variant spread like wild fire.

 Anutin came out to say yesterday that he was thankful for the recommendation which has helped Thailand procure all kinds of vaccine now.  He himself said that he was going to take his 4th dose, as he took 2 does of SinoVac then 1 dose of AstraZeneca but he is set to go to Switzerland later this month and Switzerland does not allow this mixing therefore have to get 4th dose before he goes there.

Just now, Bkk Brian said:

Unfortunately that's not reflected in the number of those being treated in real hospitals 43,184 which has not shown a decrease yet since Oct.

That's correct. The number of those under care as I said above has hardly moved from 100k. The infection numbers are as we have said before to be taken with a grain of salt because of the testing rate here.

The daily new infection numbers over the past 7 days including ATK is 73,432 with a daily average of 10,490. The numbers for the previous 7 days are 79,185 and 11,312. That's an 822 drop in daily average. I wouldn't call this significant but it is a drop.

Would it be significant to you if it rose in the past 7 days?

Parliament expected to consider legislation to replace COVID-19 Emergency Decree

(BANGKOK, November 11, 2021)—The Government of Thailand should immediately publish information on the Cabinet-approved draft amendments to the 2015 Communicable Diseases Act and ensure the amendments align with international human rights law, Fortify Rights and 9 other organizations said today in an open letter to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

“Transparency is especially critical during a public health emergency,” said Amy Smith, Executive Director of Fortify Rights. “The Thai government should ensure public access to information on new legislation that may soon govern the country’s response to COVID-19 and have far-reaching impacts on the lives of people in Thailand.”

Yes it is clearly a drop in cases, but then the testing is always suspect and as I said before it has been a long bumpy ride downwards.

Latest up to to date official data from the worldometer ranking table for deaths/million of population over the past 7 days, including yesterday’s numbers, shows Thailand remain at 70th in the world, 25 places below the UK.

Same table shows Thailand remain at 14th in Asia, 5 places below the Philippines and 2 places above Vietnam.

The number of deaths over the past week remained very low at 6 deaths/million of population, trending down 8% over the 7 day period, with the number of official infections also falling 10%. .

70 Thailand 54,031 60,127 -10% 771 432 472 -8% 6 70,037,884

With the increase in local travel, holidays, festivals etc and the further relaxations expected in the coming weeks leading up the main tourism arrivals for Xmas/New Year, we may see an upward spike, but as been stated previously the country now has to get on, and learn to live with it.

You're wrong Supot, the Thailand Pass website is buggy and unreliable still, those testing negative and being forced into quarantine for 2 weeks are not pleased at all and finding insurance to cover such a situation is a challenge.

While these guys are patting themselves on the back - high five my man - the people I know in my neighborhood still are not vaccinated.  They are waiting for Moderna.  Where is it?  They are afraid to mix the vaccines as they know this has not been tested.  And when we do go to get the mixed vaccines I observe clear, unorganized, undersupplied, chaotic superspreader events for sure.  This is in Chiang Mai right now where there are record cases and they can not even clean my car due to the cleaners getting COVID quarantine.  So I really do appreciate their efforts and I am encouraged by the good vaccination numbers - but this truly could be better and certainly better organized with more transparent communication.

What's the point of posting this day in day out? It's completely irrelevant considering the amount of testing they do.

Because I can. Same that other posters can post their school updates and what uniforms they will be wearing but I don't see you questioning them.

That’s is your opinion. Feel free to post something you feel is relevant if you wish as opposed to nit picking.

It's encouraging to see there hasn't been a large spike in cases since easing the restrictions at the start of November.

Anecdotally, I went to a well known Irish pub in lower Sukhumvit last week and it was so packed there was nowhere to sit. We had to find another place. That level of socialising with no big spike shows me there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Agreed, then Bangkok with a 91.5% one of the highest in the world fully vaccinated population then so there should be, but still bars and many schools closed, go figure......

One thing to keep in mind about the vax stats for BKK that the government uses is.... they're using an artificially low population number of 7+ million, from an old, outdated census. The more recent figure from their newer census is 10+ million, which if used, would make their vax rate for BKK look considerably less.

Another example of playing with the numbers to make them look better than they are....

Kind of similar to the linguistic gymnastics they've often taken to lately talking about the shares of people who have been "vaccinated" -- which you might think means "fully vaccinated," but instead in their use often means just one shot. They've been consciously blurring the lines between "vaccinated" and "fully vaccinated."

You're right, the tracker I referred to is also using that outdated census, quoting 7.6 million.

In the real world it is 10.539 million as of 2020
