They have to do something and fast, can't keep cramming hundreds of people into treetown every night which is filled to capacity every night, it really is ridiculous

This raises the question, is Treetown owned by a BiB, directly or by a proxy?

Not only Pattaya, but the whole country businesses should up arms

do a bit of digging and you will find bars are open in cities up north - this alcohol ban is targetting only a few cities that generally host foreign tourists

You need to consider the larger picture. A few bars opening won't cut the mustard. There has to be a countrywide message to the government from all  businesses, not just bars..

Only way to do it and keep it up, but will it fall on deaf ears, that is the question ?

Wonder if alcohol bans would exist if alcoholic beverages were only sold through state owned stores ...?...

If I would own a bar and aren't allowed to open, I would:

Go to every bar which is open and openly selling alcohol without serving any food.

Make pictures and send to the media and to ChaCha.

Of course you would - right up to the point where the guys with baseball bats came to visit your bar. Don't talk such complete <deleted>

Only 400 signatures? Not good. Just shows a lot of apathy from Pattaya business owners who don't see the big picture.  If tourists can't get what they want they will go elsewhere (ie. Phuket, Bangkok). That simple! This will effect hotels. laundrettes, barber shops, convenience stores ... any business that relys on the tourist baht. Just because your business doesn't sell alcohol doesn't mean its not your business and, consequently, no need to get involved in signing the petition.

If you are a farang business owner, your visa would propapbly be cancelled pretty quick if you tried to see the big picture and signed this.

At least do a soft lifting allowing restaurants to sell alcohol with the goal of opening entertainment to follow. Enough is enough already, it's time to open and let people be responsible for themselves!

True, waste of time rocking up with 400 signatures on a piece of paper. Need to present a reasonable game plan for a soft/gradual lifting of restrictions , as they are too lazy/dumb to come up with anything constructive. Just easy way out is to say NO. Then they-Governors people- can present it as if it is their idea.

You wouldn't survive long with those tactics mate.

I am hearing that there is a rumour on Facebook that bars will now be allowed to open on 1st December. Walking Street will be cleaned up in readiness.

Hearing similar but can't blame ppl for thinking it's all nonsense..

Ndtvi just did a live stream on it though and according to them it looks like it could happen... Something about the bars being reastraunts now, but by name only... Gotta have white lights on and no live music etc. Also socially distancing.  ????‍♂️

Who knows at this point..

I'm leaving it til Jan anyway now and think many others are also.. some even not even considering to travel til songkran

Simple:  Hand out big fat envelopes to the cops/politicians and do anything you want.  Don't hand out envelopes and stay closed or get raided.

It’s ok to open as long as you keep your mask on while drinking and smoking

Do a bit more digging and you will find that they are not "red zones", Chonburi still is.

Its pretty clear for all to see that bar closures have nothing to do with covid and everything to do with the PM wanting bars closed and currently having the power to do so through the emergency decree. Good luck getting those powers back by the way. He might actually believe that alcohol is the source of all evil its kind of hard to know what he really thinks. You cant threaten him with not voting for him next election because no one voted for him in the first place. Civil disobedience might work but would be the last resort. If everyone ignores his alcohol bans there really wouldnt be much he could do.

From Nick Dean's ndvi stream last night it seems that the big breweries are the ones applying pressure to the Government. Chang, in particular, have a lot of plans on hold for building new developments in Pattaya, Bangkok and elsewhere. This is through their property division. They have raised funding and need tourists back to start realising plans and getting returns for investors.

I don't know how much sway they have but we will likely find out before too long; a matter of days.

Sounds like unsubstantiated nonsense.

Nick Dean is delusional if he really thinks his bars can open in December. Mark my words: it will take way longer before the bars in Pattaya can reopen as actual bars. Mark my froggin words!

Nick, and Steve from The Triangle Bar, should be careful.  If the authorities issue them a restaurant license, they may say it over-rides or voids their bar license, and come January 22 when they want to become a bar again, "Sorry farang.  No new bar licenses for Pattaya."
