Thailand to consider early reopening of bars

"Thailand will be open in 120 days". Been and gone and it's not. No one's coming here. Why would you. If they weren't completely inept, which they are, vaccination rollout could have happened a lot earlier, the nation wouldn't be at a dismally low fully vaccinated rate of 54%, things could have opened gradually to test the water so to speak and then open the boarders. Sort of like other countries have done.

Unless a decision is made very quickly and in tablets of stone, tourists are not going to gamble on coming or just wait to see what happens......they will go elsewhere and the Christmas/New Year seaso

There are NOT 50000 tourists. People came to work and their family.

  • Well it might be good news but I'm  a bit perturbed about the journalist putting "really good" and "a chance" in parenthesis.   When I use parenthesis in that manner it usually means there i

Even if it happened you'd have to be stupid to book a ticket. Could shutter them overnight.

Open close close maybe maybe open close close close close maybe...

Grown adults lol

Already seeing more clueless on the BTS in flip-flops doing walk of shame at Nana BTS. Prolly thinking without so many handsum men about they'll have the choice lady(boy).

As of today, 7. Another 1 expected this evening from Wales on  an Emirates flight.  Being from Wales  he's used to the pubs being shut for no reason.

so here we go again with changes changes flip flopping back and forth sigh.. ????

They had better to it ASAP because Thailand is already beginning to fade away from people's memories as a desirable place go to. They've just about ruined it.

Why oh why don’t these waffling so and so’s just have a closed door meeting, in private, make a decision then make a stone clad announcement immediately opening  these venues? Stop this “considering” nonsense and grow a pair!

I considered reconsidering my decision to cancel my plans to travel to Thailand based on the lower number of COVID cases, but based on the uncertainty of the possible early reopening that may or may not happen...

Still not coming to Thailand, TAT!

Christmas new year and months after are already lost. 99% of real tourists have booked their holidays. Last minutes are as good as none existing as you need all registration and paperwork and all.

Zero high season this year for Thailand.

Correct, in fact Zero high season this year, again, as last year was also Zero!!

More than 50,000 tourists have now visited Thailand since the country opened to tourism on November 1.

No, 50,000 people have 'entered' Thailand, mostly made up - as the tourist industry people say - of returning Thais, expats or businessmen. Genuine tourist arrivals are probably no more than 50 a day

The concept of ultra timid cowards taking an action like this almost seems unfathomable at this point. The destruction of the tourism industry is nearly complete. Why stop now?

It has already been reported that a high percentage of these so called tourists, are returning expats. Only a few thousand tourists have subjected themselves to the stupid risks involved.

Out with the backward geriatric fools. In with the forward thinking youth. ASAP.

As always, too many hoops to jump through, Thais still believe tourists will suffer just to come and visit them and give them money bcs they want to stay in a country without being entertained.

Most people coming back are expats living in Thailand, and it will dry up soon... This high season is also gone and blamed on covid instead of being ''credited'' to decision makers in BKK. Seems these people are trying to outdo each other and come up with never ending rules and hoops for us to jump...

Open all and all venues. Continue vaccinations.

Arrivals : 48 or 72hr test before arrival, test on arrival and collect address in Thailand + passport # plus other contact details..

No, skip the bars. The first thing to lose is the mandatory face masks.

Ohh... maybe it's fatigue, or boredom, because I first read the article headline as:

"Thailand to consider barring early reopening of .... legs? .."

Wow, I'd expected several flip flops, doubling-down, denials and complete reversals by now. Certainly more to come.

Tour group organizers and travel agents domestically and abroad, you can go back to sleep now, nothing to see, no cause for, well,.... anything

where are the 50000 gone why have they not book hotels? Transiting or returning home

Its probably to late now most have started the xmas run in and already decided their fate.

will be more choice in the new year other destinations can offer more

They really have missed the boat ( or plane ) as far as tourists are concerned, but it would be so nice for the expats to have as normal a Christmas & New Year as possible.

Many organisations have or are thinking of cancelling their Christmas do's and most of those are serious fundraisers for local charity organisations, imagine that up & down the country, the dinosaurs in BKK have no clue as to the damage they are doing.

Might get January 1st instead which is marginally better.

No, 50,000 people have entered Thailand. I would bet my bottom dollar the majority were returning expats and/or Thais and NOT tourists.

I think they will go with Dec 31st , just to say they were open for 2021 ????

anyway, 2022 should be fun too with a new round of restrictions ????

Less than a third is more like reality.

I’d say 10% or less.
Even if they opened the bars now and all borders with no restrictions and no useless ripoff insurance, people will not come in droves. Folk have genuine worries—travelling (anywhere), money etc—before even considering going to Thailand. When are they going to get it through their heads that nobody cares anymore? You are not special!

I would surmise that with only a month before New Year it's already to late for many to go through the Thailand pass, get excepted before laying out hard cash for flights.

New Year will be a damp squib for bars in Thailand.

I can see a problem after the bars, clubs etc. do finally open, you get 1 Covid cluster case stemming from an entertainment venue and BOOM!! the knee jerk government will just blanket shut everything again for months!

Managed to convince her I was lecturing at Kasetart University every Wednesday evening.

Got away with that for 6 months until one night I bumped into her as I strolled along Sukhumvit (with a friend).

Hope you said it was one of your students and you were on a field trip.

DAMN!!!!!

not sure if they look around the world, then they see that the virus is coloring the world 'red' and countries flip from open and relax to strict measurements and lockdown due to the overloading of the medical system. there are more infected per day then in the last wave were per day.

then the action of the positive tested you also see, they not stay at the quarantine location as one reds in the Thai news as well in for example the Spain news where even a whole group of Dutch infected disappeared and Spain issued and International warrant to track them down

no way ????

More clap trap dangling the carrot as they have been for the last 7 months.

'Really good' and a 'chance' what a contradictary statement.

Perhaps they should have said there is a really good chance the ban will continue.

Which is more like the Muppets way of thinking.

What a crock of you know what.

Is this really a good idea? Been in The Robin Hood a few days ago. They are open since Nov. 1st, because they are obviously a restaurant. Hm. It was quite noisy there, people shouting at each other to be understood and without masks. This must be the ideal environment to spread the virus. Leaving the pub, everyone puts on the mask in the heat. Does this make sense? I mean I was happy to have a pint of Guinness. But has time already come for a full opening? Shouldn’t we be careful to not turn around the positive trend?
