Has finally arrived. I have just read that the government of New Zealand is proposing to ban the smoking of cigarettes for anyone born after the year 2008.

Firstly I will admit to starting smoking at the age of 7; fortunately I was what could be termed a ‘social’ smoker, I could stop and start of my own will and in my 20’s would buy 200 cigarettes at the airport for my 2 week holiday and then stop for a year. I then stopped completely at the age of 30  until one day on my 60th birthday in Thailand I had a ‘birthday’ smoke. I now smoke around 200 a year and usually feel guilty as I know the consequences.

However as one contributor posted on another thread on the current vaccination proposals about what he should decide he intakes into his body and has been admonished for his views, where do we draw a line on personal decisions.

So what next on New Zealand’s plans, a total ban on alcohol, a ban on playing sport as that can lead to self inflicted injuries that over burden the health facilities.

And what if other nanny states follow suit?  I’m absolutely in favour of people being responsible and looking after themselves both financially and health wise but surely this is a worrying step forward on the infringement of the rights of an individual.

I don’t trust nor see any great examples set by any government be they from any political persuasion. I have always believed they have their own interest well before any concern for my well being. Governments can declare war and kill thousands, neigh millions of people without a second thought.

Welcome to the new world authority.

This is hilarious.....

They will ban everything, they will install a chip in your nut, already tried

on pigs and monkeys, this is our future world.

Definitely no smoking, no beer, no wimmins, prepare to be bored stiff.

Apparently in Sweden they have microchips installed in the hand. A thread started on here within the last week on the topic.

This is very intelligent. Seriously. Gov's should have started doing things like this a long time ago.

Grown men and women should have enough sense to not do certain things but what to do if an individual is totally senseless. A little help comes in handy.

For example in some part of India, they banned the consumption of beef. That's good too. Should be done everywhere. Our ancestors used to eat meat for survival a long time ago. It's no longer necessary. People just eat it for taste ????. What a joke. There are way better sources to get everything that's in meat, and simultaneously animals won't be systematically abused coz the dummies won't eat meat. Or for example in some countries the standard procedure was that you either get a job or go to prison and get a job as an inmate. All of a sudden unemployment rates magically plummeted. Or the fact that in every country the law states that you're allowed to beep in traffic only if there's an emergency. Of course people don't care about it (while simultaneously having an issue with people who break the law ????). Not long ago I was in Riyadh. There, the law is actually enforced. If you beep with your pea brain for no reason, they will fine you, not just a bit. Suddenly, you will see people beep only if they really have a reason to. They can magically step in line. Or the people that smoke. I hate it when people smoke near me. They smell like dogs**t. Nobody wants to be near that. Ban it. The body doesn't want to smoke either.
