Popular Post webfact
Thailand's transport minister Saksayam Chidchob went to Chonburi yesterday to inspect coastal resources. He inspected the much delayed Sattahip to Songkhla ferry that is due to start next year, as reported elsewhere on ASEAN NOW. The minister heard about Pattaya's multi million baht beach improvements - 2.8 kms of sand in the main area and ongoing work in Jomtien. He pledged three studies would take place to make Thailand a hub of luxury cruise ships in the years ahead. This will involve upgrades and improvements in facilities to handle luxury cruise ships. This is seen as a major tourism market for Thailand's future. The studies will take place over the next two years, reported INN who published pictures of "Pattaya Before and After" in their report. Popular Post finnsk
Funny other places, like Venecia as an example, is not crazy about these cruise ships. The cruise tourists live and have their main life on the ship and is only using small money when they go on the small few hour trips in land. Hard to see that this can safe the tourist industri in LOS.

Sydebolle
Saksayam Chidchob, offspring of the uncrowned ruler of Buriram, has spoken again. Well, in all fairness he might be right this time. The Sattahip-Songkhla ferry is a private operation and if it fails, it does not soil Saksayans untainted reputation. And smart, as he is, he might want to shoulder rub with the navy boys. A berthing for luxury liners and the three Chinese submarines - a world's first! Keep up the good work, the Thai people are forever indebted by your kind contribution to the gaiety of nations.

Thailand is opening casino's, granting 10 year visa's to encourage wealthy foreigners to come to Thailand, Pattaya is transforming itself and one of its 5 goals is to "Promote economic and environmentally- friendly innovation." and now the luxury cruise ships will be lured to Thailand hurting those locations like Hong Kong, and Singapore. As someone who has cruised into Thailand and docked at Laem Chabang I can tell you there is a special "ambiance" to being nestled in between the cargo container ships and marvel and the sights including the recycling of scrap metal as shown from the deck of my Holland America luxury cruise ship. Lots of healthy looking, active and mobile people of all ages on those ships, including this septuagenarian who boxes, is practicing Muay Thai and weight trains. Generalizations are sometimes in error.

djayz
If I could afford a luxury cruise, I most certainly won't want to be greeted with "Welcum sexy man!" when I walk about town and do a bit of sightseeing (is there anything worth visiting in Pattaya anyways?). As others have stated, more cities around the world seem to be shunning these cruises.

Why not..... surely it would be an improvement to have these young, slim. olive skinned lovelies doing it, rather than 80+ year old, somewhat heavy ladies with purple hair and oversized glasses! Nice little massage to loosen up the muscles after all that shuffleboard on deck.

Perfect result for Thailand...... It could be the opposite way around. Wealthy Thai's go to the Bali Hai Port where they get on a cruise ship that heads for international waters where the onboard casino opens up. The ship returns later that night, or possible the next day.
