Bike ride through the farmland?

Featured Replies

I have been riding my Mt. Bike around the area and seeing where all the different "tractor roads" lead to. I have been uploading these into a Google Map, overlaying them, and finding spots to explore. I look for cut-throughs to get to another road system, or different ways to link between larger roads.

Anyone up for a ride through the farmlands? I have a couple good loops. No hill, but it can be challenging pedelling through that soft sandy dirt.

Send me a message if interested - I am close to Nong Kung Si

Not of much use to me right now as I'm not even in Thailand but it sounds a great idea.  Certainly something to consider as I may have more spare time when I do get back.  If the back roads are anything like the ones near me then the sand will probably be worse than a hill.

You say you're close to Nong Kung Si but there seem to be more than one on Google maps.

Yes, feels like a steep hill. I wasn't expecting to enjoy a flat ride on the trails, but the "hill simulators" make it worthwhile ????

The one in Kalasin province

The one in Kalasin province

I wondered if it might be that one. We're in Mahasarakham so next province and at the northern end. It's a long province so when my wife has to go to Phayakkhaphum Phisai for work it's a long drive although she doesn't have to drive herself normally. Actually it's about as far away as you are from us.

My village doesn't seem to come up on Goggle maps but the school does.  ban dong noi school, wang nang, mahasarakhm

My wife is hoping for promotion and one of the possible offices is Kalasin which would be helpful as it's not that far away so we wouldn't have to move. Not an easy option with her mother and 5 dogs.

Anyway keep up with the riding and mapping

Very good idea. A bit too hilly for me in Nongkhai. Real hills with simulated ones overlaid. Like to try something similar on my motorbike but get strange looks from farmers and don't want to encroach on their "private"? land.

Easier perhaps on a bike, you can talk or yell sawat dii (or ask for permission).

Looks like a group ride is not possible as we're all just a little too far away from each other.  ????

I tour the rice paddies in Roi Et province and sometimes make it over the Kalasin and Maha Sarakam borders.

I aim for 1000km each month.

The worst part about the sandy soil is that the fine dust finds its way into the various bike mechanisms and is a pain to clean.

Otherwise, happy riding...
