SURVEY: Will the night life entertainment return? When?

The former "Lord of Soapy Massage" Chuwit Kamolwisit has said that the days of such prostitution in Thailand are over.   Do you agree with him?   Do you think that the entertainment industry will return as it has been in the past or will it change?

The nightlife as we know it will be mostly gone, I think. The tourism-centred nightlife was declining anyway over the past 15 years. There will be 'naughty' nightlife, but it will be more 'Thai-style', i.e. karaoke bars in back alleys, rather than gogo bars in main streets. (There will still be some a-gogo and beer bars, but without the 'fun feel' of years past.)

There will always be prostitution in Thailand, but it will be unlike pre-Covid times.

It was already changing to be more Chinese - Thai style.  Fewer open bars with cute, brown Isaan girls, more discreet closed buildings with 'white' northern girls that appeal to Asian tastes.

Also, as Chewit pointed out, prostitution is moving online, rather than have to go to a bar and talk to a bunch of old men, the girls will just check their phones once in a while to see if they have any new customers.

It will come back over time as the tourists return.

 

BUT, the longer the closures go on the more evident to me it is that the Thai government appears to be trying to destroy certain parts of their economy - namely the bars, clubs and gogo's. The problem with that scenario is that the people that will build back the tourism industry ARE the people that would attend them - the demand for sex and beer is more pulling to Thailand for the next few years than being sat on a beach as a tourist risking your family in the thai farce pass and quarantine incarceration

Let's hope it doesn't go more like Singapore & become the land of BMD (Buy Me Drink) bars charging > 1,500 THB for a ladies drink & no chance of taking the girl out for the night... 

 

Not that I didn't have many a fun night in those bars ????

Now that Omicron (Covid 2) has found a way to not kill it's host, Omicron will end the pandemic and this will end up as a flu or a cold, give it till this time next year and things will be back in full swing IMO.

 

People are waiting to let loose, and people need to make money to survive, prostitution is a necessity in Thailand and we all know the reasons for that.

I guess he hasn't taken a walk around Pattaya's Tree Town, no shortage of buyers or sellers.  As more tourists arrive and when the bars open back up, things will pick up speed.

Business will adjust, like it always did. If there are more guests and not enough bars then more bars will open. And if there are too many bars for few customers then some of them will go bankrupt. 

A few years ago some building owners and middlemen raised the rents for bars to crazy levels. I don't think any of those high rent places will survive.

So rents will get lower again. Otherwise building owners won't find any tenants.

Life changes, but I am pretty sure we will all find the entertainment we like in Thailand in the future.

Is there anything like Thai go-go bars anywhere else on the planet?

I don't travel much. But when I was in neighboring countries I found bars with bees and girls but nothing even near to Thai go-go bars.

I don't know how many people only like go-go bars compared to other places. But I am sure there are enough of us to fill a couple of bars.

The online thing is an exaggeration. The girls go out to drink, chat, dance  gossip meet friends etc. Sure they go on line too   but nightlife and entertainment are about socializing. Talk of prostitution is reductive and the term is used by outside observers who know nothing about the reality of P4P, nightlife, clubs, bars, GG bars, etc. And that's why it is finished Covid-19 is not conducive to mass gatherings, large groups, intimacy etc.

I can only speak for Asia, the only place I have been that's comparable is the PI.

Don't think it's 'one size fits all' re cities.

 

Pattaya seems hellbent on changing its image. Maybe it will succeed, but at present Pattaya offers precious little besides the nightlife...at least for foreign tourists. Folks are well-advised to avoid the water, and there are few attractions that would entice tourists to come visit. Pattaya will, for a long time, be known for what put it on the map, so not only is there likely to be demand, but all over Isaan, Pattaya is known as a place where a farm fresh young female can go to make ends meet....and remit to the family back home. Thus, supply will be there, too. Maybe it shifts away from Walking Street, but it will be present somewhere in the city for those foreigners who still want to come to Pattaya. Otherwise Pattaya is likely to be much more Thai oriented....a family weekend destination from folks living in Bangkok.

 

Bangkok is a different story. The nightlife is contained in a few places, and not so visible unless one actively seeks it out...such as in.Nana Plaza and the very short street Soi Cowboy. Patpong was dying before Covid, but is likely to keep a few bars, mostly catering to the Japanese who 'own' Thaniya Street nearby. Also, the folks with their hands in the game seem to be people with influence and power, so expect Bangkok to be cut some slack.

 

Finally, the number of males who came to Thailand without at least a bit of curiosity about the infamous nightlife is lower than the number of winning Powerball lottery tickets. Those who claim it never interested them are likely sons of Pinocchio. Many who satisfy that curiosity become frequent visitors to the nightspots, and that's enough to keep the trade going and the cash registers ringing. Even visiting female tourists often enjoy at least a glimpse into what made Thailand famous throughout the world.

 

The adult entertainment industry was a major employer and contributed to the (theoretical) low UE numbers during the debt-driven boom years of 2010-2020. After Covid, all of those workers are not going to be absorbed by other businesses and professions, so many will do what folks have done since humans wandered out of Oldavai Gorge:  sell themselves to make money. Unless some major industries suddenly emerge in Thailand, or people decide harvesting rice is really entertaining and highly lucrative, there will be plenty of supply coming to market. I would guess that within a year the agogos of Bangkok will be as busy as they were in 2019, down perhaps from 2010, but major employers nonetheless.

The last time I went into Nanaplaza it was fully naked girls with lezzie sex shows, shower shows, dirty dance contests as well as the usual pussy shows, if that comes back wake me up. What has been around for the last few years is not worth the cost of a plane ticket IMO.

I voted! Am not a clairvoyant though 555.  Yes since April 2021, and of course starting in March 2020 things have changed, but drinking and available ladies have not changed, other than the venues.  Now you have to find the lady online or in treetown area, and drink in your room... well up until a week or so ago when alcohol started being served again.   Never picked up ladies at gogo's or went to clubs like Ibar, so those being closed does not affect my lifestyle.  I do enjoy gogo's for some fun with ladies, and cannot see why some will not return.  LK metro gogos and golden time possibly.  Walking street maybe on the east side as the seaside businesses it is said will not be able to renew leases.  Saw on place a couple doors down from New York diner is already demolished (no not the one that burned down months ago)  

As always having fun with ladies is possible and bedroom fun is almost always on the menu for a price. 

 

Nothing in life is forever, go with the flow, change is good, etc...

I guess Th.Gov. take the Covid opportunity to decimate at least a big part  the Pattaya nightlife , in favor for their planned " family oriented resort " (???? ) and shift night life to Bangkok area ....

There is no reason for Thailand not to adopt a profile similar to Vietnam, Malaysia or Indonesia where  prostitution does exist indeed, but isn't the main attraction for male tourists.
