The Thai cabinet endorsed the Finance Ministry’s plan to roll out the fourth phase of the popular 50:50 co-payment scheme today (Tuesday), from March until the end of April, according to Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana.

He did not offer any details about the amount of money being earmarked for the scheme, but said that it will last for two months and will increase people’s purchasing power.

The third phase of the program is due to expire at the end of this month and the unspent amount is estimated at 10 billion baht.

Would be better used for keeping the Thai pass open and free quarantine and testing for tourists about to spend 100,000 's baht in the thai economy

That actually sounds like plan that is already well-established - - the more you spend the more you get stimulated.

I wonder if the money disbursement is audited to ensure that it isn't syphoned off.

I'm sure the disbursement process will follow the standardized Thai checking procedure.

40% will go MIA and end up on pallets in the basements of the usual suspects.

5% will be misappropriated and some lowly miscreant civil servant will be arrested and held up as the sacrificial scapegoat to cover the 40% MIA money.

Half of the remainder will get to where it was supposed to go - the rest will fall between the cracks and nobody will go looking for it.

Same, same really.  :coffee1:

The plan?

1. The rich get more BSO (Bright Shiny Objects):

2. The poor watch the rich getting more BSO.

Prayut will run for re-election and these public "gifts" have made him popular.

This is actually a very smart package which is widely used by many Thais. Participating vendors are often soughted out by participating customers. Timely populist policy.

I've spent a fair bit these past few weeks here in Thailand but still don't see any 50% kickback for me.

Many of these stimulus schemes (food, travel, shopping etc.) in 2020 and 2021 were rife with fraud and corruption, with thousands charged.
