  • I believe that the cases are low enough to stop reporting now and perhaps go back to reporting deaths per day on the roads, and less fearmongering perhaps.

  • PCR test positive cases, total of 2,437 official new infections. 18 official covid deaths recorded.   Rapid tests positive cases, 505 bringing the total of PCR and ATK results to 2,942

Steady as she goes.  I think we may be as close to the bottom as we can get with Omicron now on the scene. looking pretty flat with a small up and down for the past 8 days.  As long as we can stay saf

Every other country so far has shown a growth rate of doubling every 2 days or less. Lets see how Thailand's growing numbers stack up with this keeping in mind we have Thailand's inadequate testing.

Personally I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will pass Thailand similar in the way it did South Africa, I've no facts to base this happening in Thailand just hope.

Thus far #Thailand has had 504 Covid cases with the #Omicron variant, cases doubling every second day. With local transmission found in at least 10 provinces, the trajectory is likely to get steeper. Get vaccinated. Get boosted. Stay safe, everyone.

Ubon Ratchathani Detects 1st Omicron Case

The northeastern province recorded its first Omicron case, an Australian man who arrived on Dec 11 through the Test & Go entry program and met his girlfriend in Amnat Charoen province. https://tna.mcot.net/english-news-850238…

If he arrived on December 11 with a negative 72 hour pre test and then got a day of arrival negative test, wouldn't you think he got it here (with the caveat of not knowing where he has been and what he has done)

It's 1 to 14 days after infected when show in test result.

Top virologist predicts surge in Omicron infections soon

Dr Yong also said it was difficult to pinpoint the origin of Omicron infections in Thailand because many events are being held that may have triggered transmissions.

“The wave of Omicron infections in Thailand is not beyond our expectation because it can be transmitted quickly, even among people who have received two jabs,” he said.

Grim worst case for Thailand next year if people lower their guard against COVID-19

The Thai Ministry of Public Health has unveiled bleak pictures of three worst case scenarios in Thailand next year, if the COVID-19 Omicron variant spreads out of control while the population reduces their discipline over protecting themselves against the virus.

I would suggest that those numbers being hospitalised and fewer deaths reported are those who have weaker immune systems, e.g. are above a certain age, with comorbidities, or without, but are obese, have a poor diet, drink more than the average alcohol limit and lack of vitamin D, etc etc.

If I am correct then that means those that are middle of the road ages and younger with better immune systems, eat healthier, drink less, and have adequate vitamin D levels are not being hospitalised or dying.

Place your bets now.

Unvaccinated in UK , the majority, are ending up in hospital rather than the vaccinated.

Another one that has been in the country already for 2 weeks.  Begs the question where was he infected.

Incubation period is 3 days with a max of 6-9 for Omicron.  Pretty sure he had to have been infected here in Thailand either at his 1st stop after he tested negative.  One has to ask did he test between day 5 and 7 using the ATK test and what if any were those results.

Until the schools reopen, properly,  Thailand cant lay claim to being on top of the virus. Kids might not generally get very ill, but they are little germ factories. The Thai authorities know full well that every second kid or more is looked after by Grandma, and that many homes are multi-generational and I think the spread into homes is what they fear. Ally this with Thai over protective nature, keeps em closed. But the schools are part of the lifeblood of the economy especially in rural areas, the explosion of activity after school finishes. I bet a few teachers are quite happy being lazy and still getting paid. Also kids are missing more than an education, school is where they usually learn about their culture, respect etc. The fact that the Government seems to be putting very little effort into this is very telling.

Schools are never going to fully reopen as long as the absolute stupidity and " devil may care " attitude exists among the School Directors and the Teaching Staff.

My Daughter returned to School for the first time in months only last week.

She was greeted by a Teacher that handed her an ATK test kit

It later transpired that the Teacher is Covid Positive !!!!!

How, in the name of sanity, is that allowed to happen ? Surely all the Teachers Etc were tested and cleared prior to the kids return.

Incompetence and stupidity on a different level me thinks, as the kids all have to take ATK tests at home and if Positive, they have to self isolate.

The School does not yet know if it will reopen in the New Year or not now

What a mess.

This I do agree with, and a few other folks along who keep banging on about it being just from the Test N Go scheme and that all approvals already given should be completely canceled are truly barking up the wrong tree.  No this is not because I have been approved already and am grandfathered in, it is my view from looking at the whole picture eyes wide open and not pointing fingers as some are doing.

If they want to add additional restrictions until the second test is completed between day 5 and 7 then that can be accomplished.  However, in the end if they do that then they risk destroying what little economy for tourism that has been created.  A no win situation, and as the rest of the world is finding out this moves swiftly and then does start to peter out as SA is finding out, yes cases are still occurring there but not with the ferocity they were seeing before. As the Stats show the death metric has risen but with a lag of up to 2 weeks we know that that can be expected.

Thailand is more than likely following this as well as elsewhere.  The UK's numbers for the past 7 days also show that they are possibly starting to hit the back side of the curve as well, but then who knows since the holidays are upon us.

I say lets look at the whole shebang in 2 weeks and see exactly where the rest of the world is, and I know that Thailand was shooting for the 4th of January to revisit the issue for re-opening Test N Go for applications for the one day and go, but another week would not hurt in my view.

As does the daughter, just in case they open the school, we all test weekly on Mondays using the approved ATK nasal swabs and the antigen Saliva tests.

I take that bet.

If you are giving odds 2 , i can retire now and enjoy the rest of my life on a beach in Thailand ????

Even milder vira than covid put totally healthy Young people in hospitals....

As for the thread and the daily numbers, then it's nice to see daily deaths are below 20 a day.

Still not as low as we could wish, but it's going in the right direction.

I think you are correct and we have to wait a little while to see what happens.

Here in DK we had 6 days with declining positive cases and then yesterday it spiked almost 50 % again and reached the highest number of positives pr day during the pandemic.

I know daily data are not 100% accurate because at times PCR tests take a little longer time and are added to the following days data, so the spike could be lower than 50%.

Our admissions to hospitals went up by 10% yesterday as well.

So i think we have to give it at least a month from, since we know admissions and deaths occur quite some time after.

Christmas and New years eve will most likely cause some spikes across the planet, but that's only to be expected.

Good news when recoveries are higher than new cases and deaths.

I agree, reporting the cases every day is just adding to the false narrative. Get on with our lives.

I can’t speak for everyone but I’m getting on with life under covid measures as I presume we all have to.

There is no false narrative, reality is what it is. Until they determine the pandemic is done and the issue becomes endemic then you'll just have to live with the daily information.

2021: The year mass vaccination injected mass confusion in Thailand

With over 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Thailand, 2021 has been a year of mass vaccination but also frustration and confusion.

As the year began, the country was abuzz with talk of vaccines. Countries like the United Kingdom had already begun their vaccine rollout, and Thais hit by the second wave of infections were desperate to get their shots.

I disagree.

Thailand can't stop Omicron - it's going to come in through Myanmar (which in turn will get it from India).

They have to essentially make sure there health capacity is geared up, those unvaccinated are vaccinated.

Any measures they put in place simply delay the full spread.

That's fine, as always we can agree to disagree.

How many tests?

It would actually be interesting to see the numbers in Thailand if they did 14 million PCR tests in a week. Yeah 14 million ...

That's is roughly what they would have to test, if they wanted to test the same % of the population as Denmark does at the moment.

In a 5.8 million population we used 108 million PCR/quick tests during the pandemic.

I don't think any other countries in the world used so many test pr citizen, but have to look that up.

That said, i actually think Thailand would still have fewer positive cases pr million if both countries tested the same % of the population every day.

Just not a huge gap like this chart shows.

Its already in, and expect it's more widespread than the authorities know due to abysmal testing and a stick rather than carrot approach to reporting an infection. Anecdotal but I know of three friends in Thailand who are infected and expect their friends to come down with it too in the next few days.
