Thailand on Tuesday (December 28) reported 2,305 new COVID-19 cases, 3,070 recoveries and 32 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 2,251. Prisons: 54

▶︎ Recoveries: 3,070

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 2,185,849

▶︎ Total recoveries since April 1: 2,132,017

Tuesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,214,712 with 21,630 deaths.

The news comes as the Ministry of Public Health has unveiled bleak pictures of three worst case scenarios in Thailand next year, if the COVID-19 Omicron variant spreads out of control while the population reduces their discipline over protecting themselves against the virus.

According to Public Health Permanent Secretary Dr.Kiattibhoom Vongrachit, the Department of Disease Control, in the first scenario, in which the majority of the population do not strictly comply with universal preventive measures, it is projected that an average of 30,000 people will be infected by Omicron variant every day from March through July.

Thing about the deaths is many seem to be incidental. That is hospitalized due to something else but tested positive for Omicron.

I've seen no official stats on that so I prefer not to speculate, I was confirming official numbers from UK Health Security Agency. They also also give a breakdown of those admitted by region and their vaccination status.

Out of approx 8,000 covid hospital admissions in the UK as it stands, it seems having only 400 of those as Omicron with the rest as delta is not positive news enough? Hospital admissions and deaths are being classified in the same way as they were before Omicron, why the nit picking now?

This will suit those government officials very nicely.

Thai Public Health Ministry to propose working from home in New Year to contain Omicron

Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health will propose to the cabinet, at its first meeting of the New Year, that it considers resuming working from home, for government officials, as a pre-emptive measure to reduce the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, which is expected to spike as people travel and gather together during the long New Year holidays.

Now the schools too, easiest target for them

Government to reconsider work from home and online classes mandate after New Year

The government said on Tuesday that it would consider reimplementing work from home and online schooling if the spread of the Omicron variant is uncontained after the New Year break.

“The ministry is proposing the work from home measure, and it will be considered on January 4,” said Sathit Pitutecha, the Deputy Minister of Public Health.

The government is set to introduce new quarantine and restriction measures on the day.

We got a message today from one of the daughters teachers that indicated the term would restart again on-line.  Looks like education is taking a serious blow.

Having had that lack of figures, we now have today's showing an increase from 32 yesterday.

Health officials on Tuesday (Dec 28) reported 38 new COVID-19 cases, 8 of which were found in Hua Hin.

Not nit picking. What may be happening is the opposite. One case in England died from heart failure and tested positive for Omocron. As I said incedental. Need figures on how many others. How many here died from (officially) virul pneumonia instead of Delta. Definitely would like data on this. Globally experts are coming to the same conclusion. Omicron is way less dangerous than Delta. I apologise for not making my post clearer.

I don't think many of us are in disagreement, Omicron is coming through as less virulent with those who enter hospital having less oxygen or ventilator needs. The proportion of Omicron cases entering hospital is also very small currently compared to other waves. Its just more detail you're looking for which is understandable.

For me personally I'm satisfied with the official stats produced by the UK on this. Delta is still rife and the effects of that in hospitals will linger for some weeks yet.

The UK is taking a bold move which I agree with in not enforcing any further restrictions, instead monitoring closely because of the low Omicron hospitalizations.

That said its also been clearly stated that the majority of Omicron cases entering hospital are still in the younger age group and so the effects on the more vulnerable may still be felt in a few days? Lets wait and see a few more days.

Unfortunately, the UK isn't taking a bold move. England is taking a bold move, appauled by business and hospitality within that region.

NI, Scotland and Wales have their own useless administrations terrified of their own shadows.

It's not often I agree with Boris, but he's on the right track here. Hopefully the Thai government will follow his example although I'm not optimistic with closing schools again already being mentioned. ????

I'm surprised Anutin has not jumped on this yet....lol

Faulty gene makes South Asians, Britons more susceptible to Covid-19, study finds

The answer as to why the number of Covid-19 infections in the UK and South Asia is so high may lie in the LZTFL1 gene, the Chulabhorn Royal Academy said in a Facebook post on Monday.

“The destructive form of the LZTFL1 gene is found in up to 60 per cent of people of South Asian descent, 15 per cent of people with European ancestry, 2.4 per cent of Africans and 1.8 per cent of East Asians,” the post read. “Racial backgrounds carrying the high-risk version of the gene double the risk of death from Covid-19.

Don't thank Boris, thank the 100 odd Tory MP revolt in parliament.

They are feed up to the back teeth with restrictions. Boris has been warned.

Schools won't be closed.
